No matter how much money you're willing to drop on Mavic 29er wheels, you can sleep at night knowing that you invested in the highest quality that your money could buy. The Mavic Crossride Disc 29in Wheelset is no exception to this rule. Refusing to make a throwaway 'entry-level' 29er wheelset, the Crossride Wheelset reflects Mavic's devotion to progression and precision in everything they make. Using a lightweight, responsive rim designed to remain strong and true after rocky beatings, the Crossride will satisfy both the 29er loyalist and the newly converted.

Mavic's Crossride Disc 29in Wheelset was developed with rider experience at the forefront of the design. In fact, the pros from teams Orbea, Cannondale, and Luna were integral in the research and development process. With their input, and a dash of French engineering prowess, Mavic was able to make the Crossride a rigid, but comfortable, entry-level wheelset that wants to accelerate and sprint out of the corners. The first step in the new design was incorporating Mavic's Self Lock system. This system uses a specially shaped spoke end that makes it virtually impossible for the spoke's thread to loosen from the nipple. This means that the Crossride's 24/24 straight-pull rims retain a constant, out-of-the-box shape with a tension and true that refuses to deviate. To combine durability and rigidity, Mavic next used the H2, hammer hardened, rims that are locally strengthened where the spokes experience the most stress. Combined, the Crossride wheelset is both strong enough and responsive enough for brutal, technical climbs and descents.

Mavic's technological innovations aren't limited to just the rim, they extend throughout every component of the wheelset. The hubs use Mavic's top-shelf QRM cartridge bearings that feature a protecting double seal, and a C3 internal clearance to nearly eliminate bearing play. For the freehub, Mavic used the FTS-X for its durability derived from strengthened pawls, self-locking axle end screws, and friction torque reducing seals.

This wheelset is part of Mavic's MP3 extended warranty program. The acronym stands for Mavic Product Protection Plan, and it provides you with two years of almost unlimited no-fault protection from Mavic. More details can be found on the MP3 website. Please note that MP3 coverage must be purchased within 5 days of the date that you receive your wheels. Contact one of our customer service representatives for the retailer and product codes that you'll need to register your wheels on the Mavic MP3 site. You'll also need the serial numbers that you'll find on your wheels. The cost for this coverage is approximately 8% of the retail cost of the wheels.

The Mavic Crossride Disc 29in Wheelset accepts only six bolt ISO standard disc rotors. This wheelset is is available in the color Black, and the freehub body accepts Shimano and SRAM 8-, 9-, and 10-speed cassettes. This wheelset has a 15mm thru-axle front hub and a 10x142 QR rear hub. Quick release skewers and hub adapters are included. The thru-axle is sold separately or comes included with most forks.

Can I mate these with my 2.5" Maxis Minions, or are these rims too narrow? Thanks!

Great UpGrade Wheels for Cheap

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The best way to make a bike from Good to Great is to upgrade the wheels, I put the Cross Ride on my Townie and it really makes for a great ride. The Light weight and stiffness of these wheels makes the bike roll with ease. Most people don't realize how much better a nice set of wheels improves their ride quality.

Great UpGrade Wheels for Cheap

hub type correction

For the set I just received, the front hub is a 15mm thru axle (no adapter for 9mm QR). Also, backcountry does not carry the necessary adapters.

The rear hub is a 12mm thru axle but does include adapters for quick release and the appropriate skewer.

So "out of the box" these wheels can be run with 15mm front axle only, rear can be 9mm QR or 12mm TA.

Typically the wheels come with all the adapters for any set up

The comments below indicate these wheels have a front axle of both 9mm QR (Kyle Smith 12/15) and 15mm TA (Adam D 10/08). Can you confirm which it is?

they should come with the parts for both QR and Through Axle

I have a 2014 Giant Trance X 29er 1. From Giant, it has:

Hubs: Giant Performance Tracker Off Road, sealed, [F] 15mm axle, [R] 135x5mm QR

Will these wheels (at the $179.40 price point) work?

The option at that price point comes stock with a 9mm quick release front hub configuration and for your bike you would need a 15mm that would require the Mavic 15mm Front Hub Adapter (MAV0440).

15mm front, 9mm QR Rear

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you want to convert the rear to a 12x142 you need item MAV000A

Hi. whats the difference between the one for $ 179.40 and the one at $ 324.95. I need 15 mm front and 142 rear, can I purchase the ones at $ 179.4 and use some adapters for the rear wheel?

Thank you

Hi Alejandro,

Here's a link for the 12 x142 rear adapter. NOt in stock at the moment, but give us a call to order and we can backorder a set for you.

Great Value

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these wheels mainly for the price, I have Easton EA90XC on my 26" bike but didn't want to spend that kind of money on my first 29er. Damn!, these wheels seem lighter than the Eastons and they roll forever. Would have been a steal at the regular price. I highly recommend these for anyone doing light to medium trail riding, they'd probably handle more though. GREAT DEAL BackCountry... Thank you!

Ride On,

Great bargain

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This wheelset is a great value for the money. I've used it out a couple times now. Climbs quick. Light in the rims. Cushy all around.

Can I set this up with tubeless tires?

Its not UST so not officially. It is possible to use a Stan's tubeless kit but the clincher hook isn't designed for tubeless.
