Crossmax XL Pro 27.5in WTS Wheelset

Mavic's Crossmax XL Pro 27.5in WTS Wheelset is part of a line designed to provide reliable handling on everything from tight, technical switchbacks to sweeping descents along root-latticed singletrack. The wheelset is made for versatility, burlier and more capable than weight-conscious XC hoops but far more responsive than wheels designed to be steered down big descents by low-slung gravity machines. The 27.5 version of the Crossmax XL Pro expertly complements a nimble 27.5 frame, able to navigate changing terrain while providing all of the bombproof durability that has long been associated with Mavic wheels.

Mavic shapes the Crossmax XL Pro's rims with Maxtal aluminum, a Mavic-exclusive version of aluminum treated to display 30% more resistance under stress and a better overall strength-to-weight ratio than the more conventional 6061 alloy. Anticipating unavoidable hits on the trail, Mavic also chose to beef up the stress-prone sidewalls of the rim to enhance their durability, and then used its Inter Spoke Milling (ISM) technology to carefully remove excess material from between the spokes and other low-stress areas of the wheel. The result is a lightweight, efficient rim in which every gram contributes to overall rigidity and fatigue-resistance.

Twenty-four bladed, straight-pull Zicral aluminum spokes link the strong rims to Mavic's QRM+ hubs. The spokes are laced in a shock-absorbing cross arrangement on the front wheel, and the rear wheel gets a radial drive-side and two-cross non-drive side pattern for increased stiffness where it's most needed. The hubs feature an aluminum body and axle with sealed cartridge bearings with Mavic's signature tight tolerances and on-bike micro-adjustability to allow you to adjust ride quality throughout changing conditions. The four pawls working two-by-two also boast a responsive 7.5 degree engagement, allowing you to quickly pop over a steep crux or channel your power straight into the pedals as you accelerate out of a corner.

Since the Crossmax XL Pro's are a complete wheel/tire system, Mavic includes its own tubeless-ready Crossmax Quest tires, which boast a grippy 66 TPI and a high-density Guard + layer to both protect against flats and reinforce the tire casing for a more supple, comfortable ride. The wheelset comes with a tubeless conversion kit, including sealant and valves, as well as quick-release skewers. The front wheel accepts a standard quick-release skewer out of the box, but you can also pop off the quick-release end caps to convert it for use with a 15mm thru-axle. The rear hub is adaptable for a quick-release axle or 12 x 142mm thru-axle.
