Mavic Crossmax SLR 29in Wheelset - 2014 $0.00
Roll lighter, go longer.
In a short amount of time, 29in wheels have grown from a disdained cult obsession to a World Cup winning phenomenon, and Mavic has been there every step of the way. Not satisfied with following the market trend of simply making a 26in wheel bigger, Mavic literally reinvented the wheel with the creation of the Crossmax SLR 29in Wheelset. Built from the exclusive Maxtal aluminum, and featuring a host of top-shelf proprietary technologies and alloys, the Crossmax SLRs are the lightest, stiffest, and fastest aluminum 29in wheelset in the Mavic war chest.
Mavic's Crossmax SLR 29in Wheelset was developed with rider experience at the forefront of the design. In fact, the pros from teams Orbea, Cannondale, and Luna were integral in the research and development process. With their input, Mavic was able to make the SLR a wheelset that focuses on lightweight system design. The low 19/20 spoke count makes for a rigid wheelset that wants to accelerate and sprint out of the corners, and it doesn't hurt that this characteristic is aided by the low inertia ISM-3D rim design; where the 19mm wide rim's lower bridge is machined between the spoke holes. This is standard fare for Mavic, but the 3D aspect takes hold in the sidewalls being machined as well. The cumulative process allows greater weight savings, thus lower rotational weight for enhanced climbing and overall speed. The rims' rigidity and durability are further accentuated by Mavic's Fore technology. This is a drilling process for spoke attachment that only occurs on one of the two rim walls. Mavic claims that this system makes the rim four times more resistant to fatigue and 20% stiffer. What we know is that the design makes the perfect, aperture-free platform for a UST tubeless system.
Mavic's technological innovations aren't limited to just the rim, they extend throughout every component of the wheelset. The hubs use a four pawl system that works two by two to promote faster engagement and a more efficient energy transmission. Additionally, the hubs use Mavic's top-shelf QRM+ cartridge bearings that feature a protecting double seal, and a simple to use micro-adjustability system for on-the-fly precision adjustments according to your riding conditions.
This wheelset is part of Mavic's MP3 extended warranty program. The acronym stands for Mavic Product Protection Plan, and it provides you with two years of almost unlimited no-fault protection from Mavic. More details can be found on the MP3 website. Please note that MP3 coverage must be purchased within 5 days of the date that you receive your wheels. Contact one of our customer service representatives for the retailer and product codes that you'll need to register your wheels on the Mavic MP3 site. You'll also need the serial numbers that you'll find on your wheels. The cost for this coverage is approximately 8% of the retail cost of the wheels.
The Mavic Crossmax SLR 29in Wheelset is both UST tubeless and tube compatible, and accepts only six bolt ISO standard disc rotors. This wheelset is is available in the color Black, and the freehub body accepts Shimano and SRAM 8-, 9-, and 10-speed cassettes. The front wheel comes standard with a 15mm thru-axle, which can be converted to a 9mm QR, and the rear options include a standard QR, which can be converted to 12x135, and 12x142mm thru-axles with supplied endcaps.

I'm thinking about running a pair of these wheels on a Felt F1X frameset as a CX/Commuting/Winter bike - it'd be largely a 10-speed Ultegra 6700 drivetrain with either Shimano mechanical disc brakes or TRP HY/RDs. Would all of that work together? Thanks!
Will these work on a 2012 Giant Anthem X 29er 0?
They will work fine on that bike but possibly need some adapters depending on what your running. Hit me up and I'll make sure we get you everything you need.

Rock Proof Wheelset
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Excellent wheelset! Almost maintenance free. I have own a couple of Mavic SLR wheelset for the last 4 years without any mayor issue. Bike is a Specialized Epic Carbon 29. Bomb Proof
Rock Garden Grenade Proof
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
500 miles of muck, East Coast rock gardens, high-speed flow trails, and 2 podium finishes. I still don't believe I've not trued these wheels, even after a rear spoke broke after a stick wedged between the the frame and wheel. Oh, and the tire does not come off to change a spoke. The tubeless tires barely leak down as their is no rim tape to worry about. I did put a small dent in the top section of the front wheel descending a nasty trail, that equestrians use too, with sharp edge very loose rocks. the size of footballs. Bike is a Santa Cruz Tallboy and I weigh 190. Thanks for the post below that states with the XD hub I can ride a SRAM 1x11. That's woth thinking about. To finish, I often ride well beyond "light XC".
The description states that "the front wheel comes standard with a 15mm thru-axle, which can be converted to a 9mm QR". My fork has dropouts for a 9 mm QR. Does this wheelset come with the necessary conversion pieces to make the front wheel 9 mm QR? Or do I need to buy something separately?
9mm adapters are included
Do you sell replacement spokes for these wheels?
Mavic wants repairs to be performed by authorized dealers, so they put some limits on us sending out replacement parts. Your quickest fix would probably be to find a Mavic Dealer in your area. If that does not work out, please get in touch with us. We will get you set up with a fix.
Are these compatible with XX1?
To run these wheels with XX1, you would need the Mavix XD driver. Our part number for that XD driver is MAV0521.
Would these fit on a 2011 Cannondale Trail SL2 29er?
Yes indeed these wheels will work with the Cannodale Trail, they would be an awesome upgrade for you!
Do you carry these wheels in the Lefty version?
We do not currently carry the Lefty versions for these wheels.
would these wheels work on a Hakalugi disc...
would these wheels work on a Hakalugi disc cyclocross bike?
These wheels would indeed work on a Hakalugi Disc cyclocross bike. The Hakkalugi uses a rear spacing of 135, and so these wheels work work great with a standard 9mm QR configuration. If you are running SRAM 22 or 11 Speed Shimano, you would need to look at another option, as the freehub is only capable of running 10 speeds, but otherwise you should be set. Feel free to email me directly at atierney@Backcountry.com if you have any other questions or concerns.
Is there a road freehub body that will fit...
Is there a road freehub body that will fit on these so I can use an 11 speed road cassette?
These will be ready to go for 11 speed. Just remove the extra 2.5mm spacer they have on the freehub body- the one that would be behind the cassette.

DOES THE REAR HUB COME WITH THE DT SWISS 240 FEAUTURING THE DURABLE 18 TOOTH STAR RATCHET FREEHUB MECHANISM...OR DOES IT COME WITH DT'S 36 TOOTH ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM ? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP...GENE ...
The Crossmax SLRs do not use DT Swiss hubs or internals. The hubs are Mavic's and us a 4 pawl engagement system.

This price and the set front and rear? Does not speak anywhere! Looking forward
What is the recommended rider weight for...
What is the recommended rider weight for the Mavic crossmax SLR 29er wheelset
Mavic does not post a rider weight limit for the SLRs. They are intended to be used as a lightweight, XC oriented/race wheelset. We've had guys in the office weighing just under 200lbs ride these w/o issues. Please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org if I can help with anything else.
are these wheels compatible with Sram 2x11...
are these wheels compatible with Sram 2x11 components? I am looking to put them on a 2014 Crux Expert.
Mavic's mtn freehub is not compatible with 11spd road cassettes. HED or Stan's offers some durable road disc wheels with 11spd compatibility. Shoot me an e-mail at email@example.com if I can help with anything else.
Can you run this wheelset with a 25mm road...
Can you run this wheelset with a 25mm road tire and tubes at 90psi or so? Just wondering if this could work as a nice road disc specific wheelset since the rim width is fairly narrow.
Yes you certainly can. I have a set of 25's that I use with these wheels when my cross tires aren't installed.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I don't know if I'd say this is a pure race wheel but it sure would work as a race wheel. More of a do everything wheel that comes tubeless ready. Great look, sound, and durability.
Crossmax SLR 29 on Cannondale F29 Carbon
This is at the conclusion of the 92 kilometer Norwegian mountain bike race, the Birkebeinerittet. The wheels are really nice, face rolling wheels. They are also super durable wheels that are perfectly true after six months of hard riding.
