Item # MAV002G

Description

With an abundance of all-day comfort and support for aggressive riding, Mavic's Crossmax Shoe is designed for the most recent evolution of the mountain bike, where uphill riding is matched with technical and challenging descents. To accomplish this, the Crossmax has a stiff sole and shaped upper with the Ergo tongue and Ergo Lite ratchet.

This, along with a Quick Lace system, securely holds the foot to prevent lift without cutting off circulation. It also helps keep weight low, after all, shoes are rotational weight too. For protection, Mavic equipped the Crossmax with a perforated toe cap, and heel, as well as a lace cover.

The upper is constructed from perforated synthetic leather, along with mesh inserts and features a well vented tongue to ensure adequate, cooling air flow. The Crossmax uses Mavic's Contagrip and Trail Grip outsole to provide positive traction when portaging or scouting new lines.

The Crossmax uses Mavic's EVA midsole and Ergo Fit OrthoLite insole for a comfortable and supportive fit out of the box. The Mavic Crossmax Shoe comes in half sizes from 4.0 to 13.5.

  • Perforated synthetic upper
  • Shaped design with Ergo tongue
  • Quick Lace system with Ergo ratchet
  • Ergo Fit OrthoLite footbed
  • Energy Grip Trail sole with ContaGrip rubber

Solid All Mountain Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I waited two months for these bad boys, and couldn't wait to try them out. They didn't disappoint! I ride in the Bay Area and Tahoe, mostly AM/Enduro style trails. They have a stiff pedaling platform, but are still flexible enough to hike a bike. Traction is good, although my crank brothers clears stick out far enough to get dinged up on rocks while hiking. The shoes are a good combination of breathable and protective. They're a little on the heavy side. The closure system is secure and doesn't require on trail adjustment. There is no pain in the top of my foot where the strap cranks across. I did break one of the release levers in a fall, but am able to unclip the shoe with a key. Overall these are solid, cool looking, rugged shoes that hold up to regular All Mountain use. I make technical footwear for a living, and I'm impressed with the design, materials and construction on the Crossmax. I would definitely recommend them.

Brap Brap! walk walk

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got these shoes because I wanted a shoe that I could walk a little easier in. These Mavic's have amazing traction, and they are actually relatively comfy. I will say that I have a really weird foot, so they are just a SMIDGE large, while fitting perfect width wise, standard French skinny people.

I'm a huge fan

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I was coming off of a heavier clunkier shoe and these exceeded expectations. I wanted a shoe that I could rip in and still hike a bike if I needed to, which I have done in them a few times already. They're super comfy but still plenty high performing. I actually forgot socks my first ride with them but came out with zero blisters and still had a great experience.

How much should I expect these to break in? I got an 11 which fits very snug but if the break in it may be alright. Also if a gear head answers. If I ride in them to try then out can I return them?

Responded on

You have around 30 days to try and break em in, get riding! Yes we will swap them out as an exchange or for store credit if they are used and you let us know around 30 days from the day you received them. 30 days isnt set in stone but, we wont hook it up after 3 years of breaking them in.

More of a dry, warm weather shoe.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These look good and bold with the yellow and black. They are consistently comfortable in warm weather and breath well. They are easy to use and after 8 month of use, have shown the right amount of wear. The sole gives enough traction to walk on rocks if needed.

One gripe about this shoe is that the uppers are SOFT. The softness gives a slipper-like comfort but don't give the support to the upper foot as well as some harder shoes, and that includes Mavic's lower end shoe, the Mavic Alpine XL, which I find is much more sturdy and water resistant. On rocky trails, I found the security of firm uppers, a benefit, which this shoe does not have. Also, because of the mesh uppers, water get inside VERY easily during rain or water splashes. Definitely gets wet fast and moisture seeps in quick. During cooler temps, it doesn't keep the feet as warm either.

This is best for warm weather, dry riding. It's a soft shoe, although the sole is adequately stiff. If you want the extra security of a harder shoe, don't go for this slipper-soft and slipper-comfortable shoe. I find it's a mixed bag, really.

Oh yes, the strap for the ratchet mechanism works but is not as smooth functioning during release as some of the other ones I've had such as Shimano and SIDI. Also, the ratchet strap is not replaceable (unlike SIDI shoes), which is surprising given that the strap is a high tension area and with age and wear would have a greater risk of snapping. If that happens and rest of the shoe is still good, the whole thing is toast!

Huh...

I guess all the backcountry.com bike-minded employees are wearing these shoes...they must not suck.

Any comments on the width? Are they tight, good fit for narrow feet?

Responded on

Tim,

These are average width and are definitely not on the wide side, and they are not to narrow.

Air Jerome's keeping you fly.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have worn my fair share of mountain shoes, and currently own three pairs, but these are my go to shoes. These things are an ultimate trail shoe, good support, stiff sole, and a light weight, breathable upper. They are extremely comfortable, and will take the place of my 5.10 Hellcats as my daily driver. I will hold on to those for full on lift serviced days, but the Mavics are going to be my most ridden shoe.
the 9.5's fit as they should, I generally measure between a 9 and 9.5 on the Brannock and prefer a snug fit in my shoes.
Buy em, they are yellow.
