Mavic Aksion TIre - Clincher $0.00
Ever wondered about whether you're undermining performance when mounting one manufacturer's tire with another manufacturer's wheelset? After all, just because a wheel (or tire) performs a particular way in product testing doesn't mean it will perform the same way when tested with a different tire (or wheel). Mavic thought long and hard about this idea and decided to put all variables solely in their control. They contacted the folks at Vittoria and had a tire built specifically to their specifications, and, after years of R&D, Mavic created the first wheel/ tire system. The technology worked so well, it trickled down all the way to an entry level system, introducing the Mavic Aksion Tire.
The Aksion is built using a single-compound, lightweight, 66TPI casing to provide a supple and responsive ride. The bead is composed of foldable aramid fibers that shed weight and facilitate a seamless rim/tire interface. The Aksion is also equipped with a nylon breaker to protect from punctures. It's not quite commuter tire worthy, but definitely worthy of wrapping a nice set of training hoops. The 65a single durometer rubber reduces rolling resistance without requiring a ridiculously high pressure-Mavic recommends inflation anywhere between 100-145 psi, satisfying nearly any preference.
At 250 grams, the Mavic Aksion tire is slightly weightier than the PowerLink (215g) and GripLink (215g) tires. However, the Aksion is a bit more affordable, making it less painful when it comes time to replace a set. The Aksion is available in both a 25mm and 23mm width that are not front or rear specific, so no matter which size you choose, the tire can be run on either wheel.

can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced winter tyre to go on mavic aksium rims? or are winter tyres just standard regardless of the wheel?
Well enough for me
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Replaced my worn tire that came with the bike and had a wire rim but even though this didn't it was easy to put on and did not pinch my tube, planning to buy a second one for my front tire.

I have to agree with another post below that they are difficult to get on. Did not pinch any tubes though, I took my time and managed to keep from pinching any tubes. Roll nice and look great. No real miles to brag about as I just installed them yesterday and rode 15 miles on them today. But ran over a tree branch and a large piece of radial tire and no flat so far so good.
I hate how tight this tire is. I am using it on Mavic rims. I can't tell you how many tubes I have pinched trying to get this thing on or off. The good is it's on sales so it is cheap. But I have had less trouble getting a wire bead tubeless tire on a mountain bike. It gets the job done and it's not too expensive.

Can you use these with any 23 by 700c rim?
Yip, they come in 23mm and 25mm wide and will fit over 700cm rims! Enjoy!
