Riding the fine line.

Sure, baggie mountain bike shorts are plentiful, but when you start shopping the freeride/downhill niche, selection dwindles down to either purpose-built DH race gear or pieces that lean a little too far over the fashion-forward fence. Maloja's EllaM. Women's Short skillfully walks that fence by packing features dedicated to gravity riders with unique, yet subdued style.

The EllaM. Short is not constrained to one liner. Maloja felt that the option to choose either an armored- or chamois-equipped liner far outweighs the restriction of having one or the other permanently attached to the short. Not mention this also allows you to comfortably sport the EllaM. sans liner, post ride.

It's no secret shuttling and lift access riding takes its toll on gear. Maloja constructed the EllaM. out of three distinct fabrics to offer the perfect balance of strength, comfort, and freedom of movement. For strength, the bottom of the EllaM. is reinforced with Cordura.

Cordura is well known for its resistance to abrasion, tears, and scuffing, and used is in everything from luggage to military apparel. While your saddle may have a smooth surface, that surface can become exponentially more aggressive as it acquires a dirty patina through out a day riding. Used here, Cordura gives the EllaM. durability to resist saddle rub while pedaling and shifting around your bike's cockpit.

The majority of the EllaM. is crafted from a fabric made out of high-tenacity polyamide yarn. The resulting textile has a soft, corduroy texture with a high tear resistance. This gives the EllaM. strength for the inevitable date with terra firma or grabby trail-side branches. Those branches can also be covered in morning dew, and trails often require creek crossings.

For that reason, Maloja combines the polymide fabric with a sympatex membrane on the backside. This keeps not only moisture from penetrating the fabric, but wind as well. You'll stay dry on the inside no matter how damp the forest is.

Maloja gave the EllaM. a slightly form-fit, providing enough room for a liner with thigh and hip pads. To achieve this they tweaked the panels to hug your profile without being constrictive. Because of the different riding positions though, mountain bike shorts require added give. particularly along the waist to maintain coverage. To address that, Maloja added a stretch panel to ensure you're comfortable and able to freely maneuver on the trail.

The Maloja EllaM. comes in five refreshing colors; Cream, Rose, Granite, Curry, and Denim. It comes in sizes X-Small through X-Large.
