Dropper seatposts are soaring in popularity, and the days of an internally-routed design being enough to garner attention from the public are slipping into the past. In the race to improve upon an already great invention, Magura has secured the distinction of being the first company to release a wireless dropper post with its Vyron eLect Dropper Seatpost.

Using proven ANT+ technology, the Vyron eLect is compatible with the same remote that Magura uses with its wireless suspension forks and shocks. If you're already riding with a wireless Magura fork and shock, you can use one remote to control all three components or choose to separate them and use multiple remotes. With the remote able to be mounted on either side of the bars, you have plenty of options for customization to take advantage of a one-by drivetrain's left shifter vacancy or fit it in a crowded cockpit.

The eLect still relies on rider weight to actually move up and down, with Magura's imperial Royal Blood hydraulic fluid providing a smooth transition as you lower and raise the seat to adapt to changing terrain. In terms of battery life, Magura states that a full charge will gain you 400 actuations of the dropper, which equates to about two months for most riders. If you happen to be caught on the trail during your 400th engagement, the seatpost does work for up to 20 "emergency" actuations via buttons on the post itself, so you aren't stuck riding your last climb of the day with your knees bumping into your chin. Once you need to recharge, expect about three hours for the eLect's battery to make its way from empty to fully charged in any USB port.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I very much anticipated the release of this dropper seat post. Unfortunately it is far behind my expectations. Here are the issues:
- The seat assembly is lose. It moves a degree or so in either direction. Not that you noticed it while riding, but I don't think this should be the case. I sent it into Magura for inspection, and they said it is normal. They still ended up sending me a replacement.
- The replacement doesn't hold its pressure. Pumped it up to 180psi only to find it being at about 100psi 12 hours later.

This is enough for me to return the thing and get my money back. It's unfortunate, but I can't tolerate these deficiencies at this price tag.

Rotational play (blacklash) is present in almost all dropper post designs. There is a very small group of manufactueres (eg: 9point8) that have managed to engineer this out using patented tech. Pressure spec is 190-210psi, so probably a bad seal on the second unit?

Did you purchase the initial unit through us at Competitive Cyclist? I would like to Make sure Magura is aware of any issues with the Vyron. It's definitely a flagship item and I'm sure they would want to be aware of the seal issue you experienced.

I'm bummed ypu had those issues. I had high hopes for this dropper. I love my command post but it too has a littie wiggle. Only dropper I've seen without that is my buddy's Thompson.

I did purchase it from an online retailer in Germany. I sent the original post in to MaguraUSA directly, complaining about the wiggle room. They sent me a brand new one with just as much wiggle. And then it lost pressure as well. I finally told them that I am not satisfied and will return it. So they are aware.

I checked a RockShox Reverb Stealth recently and while it wiggled as well, it was much less than the Veyron.
