Mad Alchemy Warming Pre-ride Oil $0.00
Mad Alchemy's Warming Pre-Ride Oil offers a number of advantages over more traditional (and more viscous) embrocations. This version of their Pre-Ride Oil offers an extra feature over the non-warming version -- heat.
If you look at the bottle, you'll immediately notice the reddish-orange hue of the warming oil rather than the yellow hue of the non-warming oil. That's thanks to capsicum annuum, the ingredient that brings warmth to your skin as a topical counter-irritant. The heat here is not insignificant, with this being the warmest of their leg lotions. The beauty of the oil is that you can control the heat by rubbing in more or less as the temperature and your body allows.
Both have a base of grapeseed and rapeseed oils, which means both will work fine whether your legs are clean-shaven or not. Either way the oil provides a nice shine, and the hairy legged will not be foiled with clumped or matted legs. And whether your legs are directly exposed to the cold or covered by tights, warmers, or even pants, the oil will work to keep your muscles feeling good and warm. Because the alchemists only use natural ingredients, you won't have to worry about the oils degrading your expensive spandex clothing.
The Mad Alchemy Non-Warming Pre-Ride Oil comes in a spray bottle that contains 4 oz (120ml) of the solution.

Good product but use with care
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I've used some form of embrocation since I started racing in the mid-80's be it a homemade recipe brought back from Belgium to Cramer Atomic Balm. This concoction works. I use it in the 50 deg temperature range (I don't have to ride in the cold anymore) either on bare legs or with knee/leg warmers on top. The directions say to "apply 8 to 10 pumps to each leg"....be careful. This stuff is HOT. 8-10 pumps, in my opinion, is way to much to use unless you don't want to sleep at night for the next week due to the heat emanating from your legs. It's the truth. I used a generous amount once last fall and even after washing it off, it lasted into the night. By generous, I mean 2 pumps (at most) on each leg.
Don't get me wrong, I like the stuff...but like anything, you just have to test a little at a time to get the correct dose. I've found that, like all embrocation, it takes a bit for it to start working...like a 1/2 hour or more into the ride. The longer the ride...the more this heats up. Post ride clean up, for me, is achieved by cleaning up first with alcohol, then soap.
Give it a try.....just use caution. Muy Caliente!
