While we're always a little hesitant to describe any product as "extreme," Garneau's new Thermal Extreme Shoe Covers certainly live up to their name. The covers were made with a blend of durable and insulating fabric panels that work as a barrier system to keep the coldest, wettest, and nastiest weather conditions from reaching your feet.
The Thermal Extremes were constructed using 3mm SBR neoprene. Compared to standard neoprene, SBR features a water-resistant polyurethane laminated with fleece, with each panel joined using sealed seams. However, similar to standard neoprene, it still has a dense, rubber-like structure that provides both strength and insulation. The extended cuff design provides more coverage than standard shoe covers, as well as a fit that prevents water infiltration. Garneau added its soft Flex Zone paneling below the front of the cuff, making a smooth, pressure-free transition between the stiff neoprene material across the top of the foot.
The covers extend above the ankles and were sealed off in the back with hook-and-loop closures, further protecting your feet and lower legs from the elements. Additional hook-and-loop fasteners were added under the soles, which makes the covers easy to pull over your shoes. To increase the covers' durability and abrasion-resistance, Garneau strategically placed panels of Kevlar-reinforced material under the toes. The covers were finished off with reflective elements in order to increase your visibility to motorists in low-light conditions.
