For all but the wettest, wintriest days, riding with a hard shell jacket can be more bother than it's worth. Even the best-fitting hard shells will flap in the wind and many have that crinkly, stuck-in-a-potato-chip-bag feeling. The Louis Garneau Geminix Jacket 2 is part of a larger industry trend away from hard shells and toward jackets that provide an appropriate level of weatherproofing with softer, lighter, and more flexible fabrics.
For the Geminix 2, Garneau used a combination of their new Sismik and Vertexx fabrics. Sismik is a 3-ply knit with a perforated polyurethane membrane that blocks wind and rain, but also effectively wicks moisture away from the skin to the outer layer of the fabric, where it can evaporate. To further protect you from the elements, the outside of the fabric has a Durable Water Repellant (DWR) finish. On the inside, Sismik has textured mesh for next-to-skin comfort. Vertexx fabric, the other component of the Geminix 2, is brushed on the inside and covers strategic areas of your core to help you retain body heat.
The Geminix Jacket 2 has Garneau's pro fit, meaning it contours the body closely for aerodynamic efficiency. A cycling-specific collar allows for freedom of movement while providing full coverage and protection from the cold. Three back pockets give you plenty of room to stash your ride essentials, while a front chest pocket provides convenient access to slimmer items like credit cards or cash. Elastic at the wrists and a gripper at the hem keep the jacket in place, and front and back reflective logos and piping offer plenty of visibility for low-light conditions. The Garneau Geminix Jacket 2 comes in sizes X-Small through XX-Large and in three color options: Black/white, Ginger, and White/black.
