Comfortable and versatile protection from cold and damp.

When it's cold and damp out. The idea of jumping on your bike with a rain jacket sends sweaty shivers up your spine. However, don't expect that to happen when you're wearing the Louis Garneau Enerblock 2 Jacket.

Louis Garneau constructed this jacket using its EnerBlock fabric. This material is a three-ply stretch knit that dually benefits from a polyurethane membrane and a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish. Accordingly, your freedom of movement is ensured, as well as a solid protection from both wind and water. At the same time, this fabric is highly breathable, so it ditches moisture like climbers ditch sprinters in a mountain stage. Layered with the EnerBlock is Garneau's HeatMaxx material. This is an opaque material with a soft brushed back that traps dry air near the skin. In other words, it keeps you warm.

The jacket was cut with an anatomic shape, and it features a more race-oriented fit. Additionally, Garneau has included a full-length, two-way zipper in order to provide ventilation at the top and bottom of the jacket. The zipper is backed by an inner-flap that stops wind from penetrating, and there's also a zipper garage at the collar. All the seams are flatlock stitched in order to eliminate friction, and to create a closer fit to the body. Lastly, stretchable cuffs were employed, which allow for flexibility and movement at the wrists.

You'll also find that the jacket has plenty of storage for winter accessories --three angled back pockets, two front pockets, a zippered sleeve pocket, and a media pocket with a port for your headphones. The jacket is finished with reflective front and back accents for low-light visibility.

The Louis Garneau Enerblock 2 Jacket is available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the colors Ginger and Black/white.

2nd review

Well I just received the XL size of this jacket. I have a 40-41 inch chest and a 34 inch waist. This size jacket is still tight on me, wearrable but tight. The XXL may be perfect but look at the sizing chart-46 inch chest, 40 inch waist. Man that's not even close. LG just sucks with their sizing chart. Order accordingly guys.

Sizing

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Sure as heck don't know how LG figured out the sizing on this jacket but they are dead wrong. The medium I ordered is more like a small. There is no way it fits a 34 inch waist nor a 40 inch chest. Try 30 inch waist and a 38 inch chest max. I am now giving this to my son for his birthday. Have ordered an extra large just to be sure it fits reasonably well.

Whacko sizing

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I don't know where Garneau came up with the sizing for this jacket? For starters, I'm 5'10" 164lb with a 33 waist, swimmer build. A largein this jacket is a very close fit, even closer than any Castelli Jacket or the Gabba LS jersey that I've tried on. I decided to return it for the Castelli Mortoriolo Jacket, which is a close fit in a large, but there's room to wear a jersey or base layer at least. I think Garneau will have to re-think the fit on this one. If you're flat chested stick armed climber it will work for you.....

Form fitting is an understatement!!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The quality of the jacket seems fine, although I am not a fan of stuff made in China. Nonetheless, had it been a fit I certainly would have given it a go. I tried XL, then XXL. The XXL almost fit, except the sleeves were at least 2 inches too short. I am 6'2", 185lbs, arms 33/34; so generally I take a L, or, occasionally and XL. Anyway, since XL is largest that CC stocks, I had to give up. You will definitely need to size UP on this jacket.

Form-fitting

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am 5'11, 175+lbs, 40-41" chest, 33" sleeves and chose a large. Fabric is quite stretchy, but my wife says it fits me pretty snugly (ahem: form fitting), so I might need to lose a few lbs! I'll have to see what my riding group thinks. Surprisingly, it also actually fits my 5'8" 130lb son pretty well. It might be nice to see if an XL is better of too baggy, but I'll keep this one since my son likes it too. Seems warm, looks sharp,. and the 5 pockets are nice.

Great jacket Great value

Living in New England the DPW errors on the side of excessive salt and chemicals so paying several hundred dollars on a cycling jacket seemed silly to me. The Louis Garneau Enerblock 2 Men's Jacket is reasonable priced and has kept me very warm in temperatures at or below freezing providing you layer. The pockets are very accessible, even for those of us flexibility challenged. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase.

Responded on

what about its waterproofness? is it still somewhat breathable for use in race type efforts in the rain?

Responded on

Louis Garneau says, "The EnerBlock fabric is a 3-ply stretch knit with a polyurethane membrane and a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish to provide waterproof and windproof properties, and the HeatMaxx fabric is an opaque construction with a brushed back to retain body heat."

I haven't had it out in a flood but I can say that for those times when you are caught in the rain you'll stay completely dry (and warm)! I did a lot of reading before I settled on this jacket - I don't think you will be disappointed!
