Description

Over the course of a time trial, every millisecond counts, and accordingly, every damaging variable must be accounted for. So, in a way, we are indeed saying that your six year old skin suit is a hindrance to the results that you should be experiencing. This is where we guide you to Louis Garneau's experience in engineering pure speed. With its Elite Course Body Suit, you not only gain an impressive aerodynamic advantage, but you also get an unparalleled level of comfort and flexibility.

To make the Elite Course body suit an aerodynamic wunderkind, Garneau had to consider the symbiotic impact of its every centimeter. Accordingly, the Elite Course uses three different fabrics to achieve its goal of being a drag reducing masterpiece. We'll start with the primary material, Lycra Pro. This fabric features a knit that has a high percentage of Lycra fibers in its composition, which means that you'll experience more muscle support in comparison to heavy polyester blends. Why is this important? Well, more support translates to less muscle movement from road vibration, and thus, less muscle fatigue. Additionally, even though the Elite Course isn't a designated compression piece, you can still expect a slight improvement to blood flow, correlating directly to a reduction of lactic acid buildup. Even better, Lycra Pro has been designed to retain its shape after expanding for body conformity. So, the fabric's shape, fit, and compressive qualities don't run the risk of degradation.

And outside of the Lycra Pro's compressive properties, the material is highly breathable, as well. This has been further complemented by Garneau's placement of both Lazer Rev and Reflexx at inner legs and sleeves, respectively. At the inner leg, Lazer Rev contributes to body suit's supportive and compressive nature, while adding a touch more durability. This way, the body suit is less susceptible to any abrasion from inner-leg saddle rub. As for the sleeves, Garneau incorporated the Reflexx fabric for both its malleable structure and its breathable nature.

So, you might be asking where aerodynamics come into the fold? Well, this a two part story, with Chapter One being the materials, and Chapter Two involving the construction. Moving along these lines, Garneau designed the Elite Course with a minimal number of seams, or what Garneau calls, one-piece technology. Not only does this minimize the possibility of abrasion, but it also creates a smooth, laminar air flow over the entire body. You'll notice that the inner leg features a seamless design, and that the hems of the legs, or lack thereof, have been laser-cut. Together, drag is reduced, and over-compression and chafing have been eliminated. The same principle has been applied to the low-cut neckline. Additionally, Garneau has done enough research to realize that you Elite Course body suit is more aerodynamic than your skin. So, you'll notice that the legs and sleeves have been cut longer than your typical body suit. This design makes the airflow transition smoothly over more of the body. And going even a step further, the body suit has been designed and cut for the body while in the cycling position. While this creates a bit of pull when you're standing, it eliminates friction drag resulting from fabric bunching.

For further comfort, the bib shorts feature Louis Garneau's own, patent-pending 5 Motion chamois. This chamois, developed with Beveled Edge Molding, uses a 3D, pre-shaped wing design that moves in unison with your body. After all, a non-conforming insert is a leading cause of abrasion. So, to guarantee an obedient flexibility, the 5 Motion chamois uses a variable-density, perforated memory foam that's been shaped objectively towards every direction of movement and pressure. And unlike other forms of variable-density padding, the 5 Motion shape ensures that height transitions flow smoothly from region to region. This means that pinching and chafing are nearly eliminated. Garneau also included a center channel, much like your favorite saddles, that relieves pressure on the urethra and pudendal nerve. However, Garneau didn't stop there. The insert also effectively evacuates any moisture -- another source of chafing and bacteria.

To ward off heat, Garneau also treated the body of the jersey with the Coldblack finish. This finish permits the sun's heat to be reflected away from the jersey instead of absorbing it like most fabrics. So, you can ride on the rivet during summer races without running the risk of overheating. Garneau has also included reflective accents to increase your visibility to motorists while training in low-light conditions.

The Louis Garneau Elite Course Body Suit is available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the color Black/red/white.

Broken zipper after 3 uses

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Could be a decent suit but they skimped by installing a crumby zipper which seized on my second try and completely broke third time I wore it
Bought it cheap - you get what you pay for
Thumbs up to competitive cyclist for their excellent return policy - they proved to be a no hassle company making me happy to continue dealing with them

Does is it make one faster ? Yes!

  • Gender:Male
  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm 59 years old and until last fall when I decided to do an amateur TT I had never ridden competitively. After just one TT I was hooked and bought a Fuji Norcom TT bike.. As a newcomer I am of course interested in everything that can make me definitively faster and so I ordered this skin suit. I have a regular ride I do that is 23.45 miles long. I live in hilly Southern Indiana and this loop is about 50% flat and 50% hills. Yesterday before I received the LG skinsuit I set a new PR on this course wearing what I consider a pretty aero jersey. Today I received the skinsuit so I road the course again. Weather conditions were very similar and bike setup was identical. Even though my legs felt heavy from the prior ride I still beat yesterday's PR by 58 seconds!

The only reason I didn't give this suit 5 stars is because it doesn't have a pocket and to tell truth it is only comfortable when riding. I am pretty sure I will only use it only for TTs and not training rides.
