Louis Garneau didn’t pull a single punch with the Course Air Lite Road Shoe. This one has all the bells and whistles: a carbon fiber outsole with titanium inserts, the Boa closure system, Garneau’s patented air channel system, and a paper-thin 4.3mm stack height. That all sounds great, but here’s the icing — the shoe weighs just 222 grams (size 42) — making it Garneau’s lightest shoe ever.

The Course Air Lite uses the HM X-Lite carbon outsole with titanium inserts for an ultra-stiff platform and incredibly low weight. Not surprisingly, the new outsole features a lighter weight and a higher level of stiffness. The ultra-thin outsole provides a stack height of just 4.3mm. Accordingly, the distance from your foot to the pedal is shortened, resulting in a more efficient power transfer. Don’t think for a second, however, that Garneau stopped engineering at the outsole. The Course Air Lite features Garneau's HRS-400 technology. This design revolves around a nylon-injected reinforcement that keeps the heel from shifting. Additionally, Garneau included a one-way anti-slip spandex support inside of the heel cup. So, with the heel position secured, power loss from slippage is nearly eliminated on your up and down strokes.

Garneau equipped the shoes with a microfiber upper. And not only does its rigid composition add to the shoes' durability, comfort, and support, but when mated with the 2LS' mesh ventilation windows, it dramatically increases its breathability. And while this all great, the most substantial new feature for Garneau has to be the Air Lite’s Boa lP1 closure system. Advantages of this system, compared to the Carbon Pro Team's micro-ratchet closure, include a nearly limitless level of volume customization, a complete lack of pressure points, and around a two-thirds weight drop. On top of this, Boa uses aircraft-grade stainless steel that, according to Garneau, is stronger-per-gram than tank armor. So, the perfect fit is guaranteed, whether pre-ride or on-the-fly.
