Fit meets power.

If we were to ask you what's important to you in a cycling shoe, your reply would most likely revolve around the pillars of stiffness, weight, and comfort. However, if we then asked you what shoes embody all three of those design principles? We're ready to be conversing with a blank stare. But, if you're ready for shoes that check off all of your wishlist's boxes, let us make a suggestion -- the Louis Garneau Course 2LS Shoes.

Garneau updated the Course 2LS' outsole from the Carbon Pro Team's HM X-Lite to the new Exo-Jet Carbon. Not surprisingly, the new outsole features a lighter weight and a higher level of stiffness. However, what we weren't expecting was Garneau's newly patented multi-vent airflow system. This system consists of air channels that run from toe-to-heel. So, you'll always have a source of cooling air over your feet during frustratingly hot summer rides.

And while the carbon fiber outsole provides much of the shoes' rigidity, you might be surprised to note that the Exo-Jet features a thinner construction, and thus a lower stack height than the HM X-Lite. Accordingly, the distance from your foot to the pedal is shortened, resulting in a more efficient power transfer. And along the lines of power transmission, Garneau didn't stop engineering it at the the outsole. Like the Carbon Pro Team, the 2LS features Garneau's HRS-300 technology. Essentially, this design revolves around a nylon-injected reinforcement that keeps the heel from shifting. Additionally, Garneau included a polyurethane spandex support inside of the heel cup. So, with the heel position secured, power loss from slippage is nearly eliminated on your up and down strokes.

Garneau equipped the shoes with a microfiber upper. And not only does its rigid composition add to the shoes' durability, comfort, and support, but when mated with the 2LS' mesh ventilation windows, it dramatically increases its breathability. And while this all great, the most substantial new feature for Garneau has to be the 2LS' Double Boa L5 closure system. Advantages of this system, compared to the Carbon Pro Team's micro-ratchet closure, include a nearly limitless level of volume customization, a complete lack of pressure points, and around a two-thirds weight drop. On top of this, Boa uses aircraft-grade stainless steel that, according to Garneau, is stronger-per-gram than tank armor. So, the perfect fit is guaranteed, whether pre-ride or on-the-fly.

The Louis Garneau Course 2LS Shoes are available in whole and half sizes from 38.0 to 43.0 and in the colors Black or White. Also, the shoes come with two sets of insoles, the Garneau Ice Fil Ergo Air Cool Stuff Blue double-density EVA and the Hot Stuff red antibacterial.

Here's what others have to say...

nice shoe

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:Runs small

wish i had read the reviews before purchasing, would have ordered up 1/2 size.

Great Shoe, Better Price

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:Runs small

Yes, sizing runs about 1/2 size small. Wear a 43 in Specialized expert shoe and 43.5 in the LG Course 2sl. However, customer service is excellent and as long as they have 1/2 sizes above your normal size you can do a trial and error at no shipping costs. IMO this shoe is better than specialized top end shoes.

Sizing is off

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:Runs small

I never got to try these because I couldn't get a pair that fit. I wear a 45 in Sidis and according to the sizing chart, a Garneau in 44 should have worked. The 44s were too small and I exchanged those for 45s that were also too small. I'd try 46 but those weren't available.

Nice shoes, but the sizing is wrong

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:Runs small

Read the other reviews, just about everyone is saying that these shoes fit small. I wear a size 9.5 and the fit chart says I should get a 43. My toes where hitting the tip of the shoe. I had to send them back and reordered a 43.5. Competitive Cyclist charges I recall $6 for postage on returns. I complained and they refunded me the charge. Overall I like the shoes very comfortable and my feet don't get numb like my old pair.

Shoe sizes

Garneau suggest that an 11.5 wear a 45 shoe. It is too tight, im going to return. the next size up is a 46. wish me luck.

No review as I have not used them. I wear an 11 running shoe (asics) and my toes hit the front on both the 45 and 45.5. Just some food for thought in the never ending pursuit of fitting shoes online.

I also have a US size 11 and felt the recommended 44.5 in the conversion table fits too small.

    Great Shoe

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Light, stiff, great heel hold and comfortable. The BOA closures are awesome. The cooling vents are a bonus. At the sale price they are an awesome bargain.

    Incredible Shoe!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I went through a number of shoes before I found these LG gems. My toes used to go numb but no more. Super light, comfortable, stiff, durable, nice ratchet system, and cool airflow channels. Even ridden them in multiple downpours and they dry nicely with no shrinking. I have not a clue why Canadian/European sizing systems are so hard to match to US but I wear an US Size 11 and the 45.5 fit me very well. CC hooked me up and helped me swap a few out till I found the right fit.

I've been a fan of Garneau shoes for a while, started with the entry level a few years ago and worked my way up to these. I have a wide-ish forefoot but otherwise narrow feet, and they fit perfectly. They're super light, super comfortable and nice to look at. I've tried Sidi's and S-Works, but the Garneau's make me feel like nothing is on my feet.
