Description

Supporting your lower half in style.

The new Pilot LE Bib Shorts were designed to provide you with the ultimate combination of support and all-day riding comfort. They represent Garneau's 30 years in the apparel-making business, incorporating the same designs and fabrics used to outfit the world's best cyclists. With the Pilot LE bibs, Garneau's legacy continues, as they were built with its signature fabrics and attention to detail. And now, they're available in a design that's exclusively made for Competitive Cyclist.

Starting with the basic construction, Garneau made the Pilot LE bib shorts from a well-positioned blend of Lycra Power, Lycra Pro, and Power Mesh. For compressive support, Lycra Power has been placed at various points on the legs of the shorts. Basically, this fabric features more Lycra fibers per ounce/square yard than typical Lycra compositions. So, the material experiences an elastic hold on your muscle groups, supporting and shielding them from the bulk of oscillation and road vibration. This results in a decrease in overall muscle fatigue, while also, according to Garneau, a 10 to 20% improvement in blood circulation. And when the aforementioned is paired with the Lycra Pro material, the shorts experience a heightened level of recovering stretch. This means that your freedom of movement is ensured. Further ensuring this characteristic, Garneau designed the shorts with a seamless inner-leg and a ten-panel construction. This not only leads to an increase in flexibility, but, more obviously, it lends itself to eliminating abrasion. Garneau even took this concept a step further by only using flatlock stitching throughout the shorts and uppers. However, all the while, both fabrics possess an extraordinary ability to manage moisture. This means that riding with damp legs after 40k is now a thing of the past.

The secure fit of the Pilot LE bib shorts was accomplished through the use of compressive fabric panels and Garneau's Powerband leg cuffs. These not only provide a strong, no-slip hold on the legs, but they also reduce pressure on the lower legs in order to maintain proper circulation. Garneau further achieved its body-holding characteristics by constructing the bib straps from Power Mesh, with an added stretch trim that ensures flexibility. These straps hold the position of the shorts, and also aid in pulling perspiration away from the back and torso with their moisture wicking composition.

Garneau included its AirZone insert into the Pilot LE bib shorts. This chamois uses a 3D, pre-shaped wing design that moves in unison with your body. After all, a non-conforming insert is one of the leading causes of abrasion. So, to guarantee flexibility, the AirZone chamois uses a variable-density, perforated memory foam that's been shaped objectively towards every direction of movement and pressure. And unlike other forms of variable-density padding, the AirZone shape ensures that height transitions flow smoothly from region to region. This means that pinching and chafing are nearly eliminated. Garneau also included a center channel, much like your favorite saddles, that relieves pressure on the urethra and pudendal nerve.

The Louis Garneau Competitive Cyclist Pilot LE Bib Shorts are available in the sizes X-Small to XX-Large and in the Competitive Cyclist Black colorway.

So nice, I bought them twice...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

So I ordered a pair of these, and as the other review stated, LG's size chart is overly optimistic. The issue is that taking a dump on the product because the size chart is off isn't really a review now, is it?
Fortunately, the large bibs I ordered fit one of my ride buddies, so he ordered a XL, and we traded. See...easy peasy.
Whatever size you normally ride, go up one. I wear large in Pactimo and Hincapie, and the XL Garneau bibs fit me perfectly.
The Good :
Super nice material. Holy compression Batman. They aren't tight for the sake of it, or because they're too small. The material is designed to be compressive in order to help your muscles. And it does just that. They felt odd at first, but after an hour, you just forget them. It honestly feels like you aren't wearing bibs. There's ZERO adjustment needed mid-ride.
They look great. Simple colors. Simple logos.
The pad is big...bigger than some (Giordana), but in NO way does it give you the damp diaper feeling that some other bibs with 3D pads can give. And the nature of the bib material keeps it where it needs to be...on your important bits. Again...ZERO adjustments needed.
Strap length is perfect, and the front of the bib is a good length. It doesn't come up to your nipples, nor does it push your stomach out the opening, a la Castelli.
Inseam length is spot on as well. And speaking off, the lycra band at the bottom is great. Didn't think I'd like it, but it never creeped up, and didn't give the much feared and hated "sausage legs".
The bad?
Haven't found anything bad about them yet. Hell, in all honesty, as soon as I got home from the ride, I ordered another pair.
For reference, I'm 6'1" and 180. XLs fit me perfectly. My aforementioned ride partner? He's 5'7" and 165. The large bib fit him well. Go by weight on these, as the lengths aren't that different. 170-ish is about as big as will fit into the large.
Time will tell about wear and tear, but for now, these are the best I own!

Responded on

Mark ,how is the length on these? I bought 2 pair of LG's Corsa 2.0 from Back Country, and they were nowhere near the stated inseam of 11.25". I need them to be LLLOOONNNGGG, like LG's Neo Power. 6'3" for reference, and most shorts look like womens hot pants on me.

Thanks!

Don't go off the LG size chart

Seems to be good construction with a solid chamois, but their sizing is way off. I was skeptical about ordering a Small (waist 32"), should have stuck with the Med or Lrg. Couldn't even get these on.
