How light can you go?

The Look Keo Blade 2 TI Pedals are an extension of the same innovations found in the original Keo Blade Carbon. They feature a wide body and reliable cleat retention system, but they save you 40 grams per pair with the incorporation of a titanium spindle.

Look's Keo Blade 2 TI's design is based on the new wide carbon central blade, which gives you a 17% wider body than the original Keo for a more stable platform underfoot. Even though the pedals are wider overall, the cornering clearance was actually increased due to the widening occurring at the topside of the pedals. To further increase efficiency, the Blade 2 features a reduced stack height by using an oversized Titanium spindle. This brings your cleat closer to the pedal, which minimizes power lost in the transfer from your feet to the drivetrain. Just in case you are concerned about the reliability of the spindle, all Look spindles are approved only after a rotational test of 2 million cycles at 100 rpm, with a load of 90kg and an eccentric rotation. The eccentric rotation replicates a "bump" in the road during each pedal stroke. This is much more abuse than your pedals will ever take on the road. The stack height of the Keo Blade 2 is 13mm. A permanent cleat-stop contact ensures the same contact no matter what angle your foot is pedaling.

At the heart of the Blade 2 TI pedals is the new "blade." This piece of carbon has been placed at the center, or "heart," of the pedal. It has been fully integrated into the design. The blade's function is to flex against the retention plate to hold your cleat in place. By placing it the full length of the pedal, your foot is not only held more securely, but the pedal's aerodynamic profile is also enhanced.

Great once you clip in

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

These pedals are really light and look fantastic, but the orientation of an unclipped pedal is unpredictable, due to the light weight, lack of weight in the rear (compared to pedals with conventional springs) and the fairly stiff bearings and seals.
This makes clip in slow and unpredictable. You really have to look down and see where the pedal is at, and possibly move it around.

It can take ages and make you feel like the fredliest beginner. Of course if you dont look down to see where you are, and do it by feel you can end up on the reverse side of the pedal. You know its wrong, but you need that pedal stroke to keep from hindering the group, then you can slip off the pedal and encounter the sharp edges as they gouge your calf.

Of course you only clip in once in races, and I somehow never had a problem off the line, but the weight, aero benefits and stiff platform work well. So overall excellent apart from the major caveat of the clip in.


Great Pedals

    These are light, really light. I previously had Look pedals and really enjoyed them so when I upgraded from Keo Classics I chose these. The pedal does not spin as easily as other models which means a little more effort to get clipped in. I noticed right away the increased surface area under foot and loved it. These are super stiff, noticeably lighter than my previous pedals (~100g), and a solid upgrade.
