The recently redesigned Keo Blade 2 Ti pedal is a marvel of engineering in its own right, being lighter, stiffer, and more reliable than its already-excellent predecessor, and still relying on the novel but ingenious single carbon blade mechanism that gives it its namesake. So what could make it even better? How about some cosmetic detailing to make a Mondrian homage, the artist's bold, high-contrast design language that's now famously adopted by the French cycling company? If that sings your song, pick up a pair of the Look Keo Blade 2 Ti Pro Team Limited Edition Mondrian pedals, and know that you have the prettiest pair in the pack.
But function, of course, comes first. Look's new Keo Blade 2 Ti's design is based on the new wide carbon central blade, which gives you a 17% wider body than the original Keo for a more stable platform underfoot. Even though the pedals are wider overall, the cornering clearance was actually increased due to the widening at the topside of the pedals, making for a stronger platform that allowed engineers to remove excessive material below on the pedal's underside. To further increase efficiency, the Blade 2 features a reduced stack height (down to 13mm) by using an oversized Titanium spindle. This brings your cleat closer to the pedal, which minimizes power lost in the transfer from your feet to the drivetrain. To ensure their legendary durability, all Look spindles are approved only after a rotational test of 2 million cycles at 100 rpm, with a load of 90kg and an eccentric rotation. The eccentric rotation replicates a "bump" in the road during each pedal stroke, simulating real pedaling effort. This is much more abuse than your pedals will ever take on the road.
As mentioned, at the heart of the Blade 2 Ti pedals is the revised carbon "blade." This piece of fiber has been placed at the center, or "heart," of the pedal. It has been fully integrated into the design. The blade's function is to flex against the retention plate to hold your cleat in place. By placing it the full length of the pedal, your foot is not only held more securely, but the pedal's aerodynamic profile is also enhanced, and a permanent cleat-stop contact ensures the same contact no matter what angle your foot is pedaling.
The Look Keo Blade 2 Pro Team Ti Limited Edition Mondrian Pedals are available in 12Nm and 16Nm spring tension versions, the lower number being easier to engage and release. The pedals' float is cleat-dependent, and Look's grey-colored cleats are included, which allow for 4.5 degrees of float.
