Naked right chainstays are not pretty on derailleur-equipped bikes. On mountain bikes, the stay gets downright fugly. Chain slap takes even the prettiest, hardest stay and gouges it, scrapes, it, and lays down sub-dermal grease slicks that never look clean, and, if the tubing is ultra-thin wall, the beating could eventually devastate the frame.

Lizard Skins Chainstay Guards have been a time-tested solution. The 2mm Powertex neoprene guard not only protects against the cuts, nicks, scrapes, and gouges, but also quiets the noise that occurs during those moments of maximum slappage.

There are two sizes. Standard is for steel or titanium, and measures 9-11/16" in length, starting at 3\224 in circumference and narrows to 2-11/16" (for the metric-centric 75mm/68mm x 245 mm). Jumbo fits most aluminum frames, and measures 3-1/2" x 10" (85mm x 255mm).

  • 8.5cm diameter (stretches about a cm); 25cm length

It does okay

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm really surprised someone has not made a more durable and improved chain guard. This does work but its just okay.

Good product and affordable.

I almost positive the standard didn't fit my aluminum Fuji HT and I had to get the jumbo. Sorry about the size but I can talk about quality. The one I have now fits well and has lasted well over 4 years. The chain stay is protected and the sound of the chain slap is decreased but not eliminated completely.

Cleaned my bike today and measured the lizard skin when I took it off and yes it is a Jumbo (not a standard) and it fits perfectly with a little room for a bigger chainstay if needed but it is tight and doesn't move around on mine. My chainstay is tubular and measures about 1"x5/8".

Tough Fit

I went with the jumbo to make sure it would fit, but even this was a struggle. I finally got it on but it was by no means easy. Now that it is on, im quite happy as my bikes paint job wont suffer the abuse of my chain. I like these way better than the clear stick ons. I feel it gives me better protection and is a lot quieter.
