Don't take chances.

From the company that wants you to see the Light and stay in Motion, the Light & Motion Urban 500 Headlight does the trick, casting a bright beam across your path from a small, light package with excellent range.

Using a flexible and durable mounting system, the Urban 500 can be placed on your handlebar or helmet, and it pops off easily when you get home. Cranking out 500 lumens makes this model less bright than the company’s 650 or 800 models, but it will still easily outshine the vast majority of light systems on the market (the average clip-on light out there has less than 100 lumens). It’s an extremely visible LED light that employs many of the 800/650s’ innovations, like amber-colored side lighting for 180-degrees of visibility, and a precisely engineered lens that evenly distributes light over a field designed to help cyclists see both near and far while riding. The battery life indicator will let you know how long you can stay out, and the IP67 waterproof rating means the light can still function while submerged under one meter of water for up to 30 minutes, just in case you try out an ill-advised shortcut.

The Light & Motion Urban 500 Headlight measures 4 inches long and 1.2 inches wide, takes five hours to charge, and can be mounted on either your handlebar or helmet, requiring no tools for installation. It comes in two colors: Hopsickle and Blue Ribbon.

Very functional and easy to use.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Very solid bike light for the price. The light has a wide and bright beam, which are my primary concerns. Charging is easy, and switching between modes is very simple.

The description says "handlebar/helmet mount", which I interpreted to mean that the light would be compatible with both. It only comes with the handlebar mount, but you can buy a helmet adapter for $10. I thought that was a bit deceptive considering it was one of the reasons I chose this light. I suppose any light can be helmet adaptable with some duct tape.

Overall, I'm happy with the light and would recommend it.

Great Battery Life & Projection

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I originally bought this light for commuting around town as I wanted a high quality light that would make me easily visible to vehicles. It mounts quickly, offers outstanding side visibility, and great battery life (with battery life signal on the back). I eventually used this light while hiking at night, which was actually worked quite well since the shape of the light with strap is easy to hold in your hand. The beam projection and battery life are what sold me on it though and I use it for hiking all the time now. I wish I could turn off the side markers to extend the battery life further, but they are not bothersome while hiking. Whether I'm riding in the evening hours or chasing daylight down from a long hike in the mountains I always grab this light.

Suspect battery life

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The 500 lumens are awesome. I get a super safe feeling operating with such a high beam on my ride home from wok. That is, when the light works... it's died on me twice on my ride home. THe first time, after three rides (approx 35mins each). So I felt confident it had a 100 minute burn time. The second time it died was after one ride home. That has me concerned.
My wife has been using it for shorter rides and hasn't complained of failure yet. I've swapped hers and mine to make sure she keeps a good charge so I don't think we have a lemon. It could've just been operator error on my part. I may not have charged it as long as needed.

Will keep using it, but just need to be more diligent about keeping a good charge. Excellent light with wide field of view and powerful.
