Description

Let there be light.

Those with an affinity for riding at night know just how important bright lights are, but no one needs to pay a weight penalty in order to see where they're going. Luckily, though, weight isn't an issue with the Light and Motion Seca 2000 Race Light. Kicking out 2000 lumens at full-power, this is one bright light. Better yet, you save 150 grams over the Enduro version. Racers and lightweight enthusiasts rejoice -- your new favorite light system has just entered the building.

Picking up where the Seca 1700 left off, the Seca 2000 Race kicks up the maximum output by 300 lumens. Essentially, this is another way of saying that it's incredibly bright. To achieve this, the light features six of the highest quality LEDs on the market. And luckily, this translates directly efficiency, so you won't have to sacrifice battery life for brightness. In fact, the full-strength 2000 lumen setting provides an hour and a half of run time off of a full charge. But, not every situation requires full-strength lighting. For example, while it may be necessary for descents and high speed trails, climbs and slower sections allow you to get by with a more moderate output. Accordingly, you have the option to run the Seca 2000 at either a medium 1100 lumen setting or a low 575 lumen setting. Additionally, you're able to run the 575 lumen setting in pulse mode for when you're primarily concerned with being seen. Along these lines, the light is operational for expect 3 hours in the medium setting, six hours in the low setting, and 12 hours in pulse mode.

Powering the Seca Race is a three cell lithium-ion battery, as opposed to the six cell battery that's found in the Enduro model. The result is a weight savings of around 150 grams at the cost of a roughly 40% reduction in run time. For those whose goal is to go fast with zero compromise, this weight savings will be well worth the reduced battery life, especially since the run time is still very impressive. Hidden inside the body of the light is a pair of bi-conic reflectors. And in case you're wondering what that means, basically, the full output of each bulb is directed towards your field of vision by reflective elements inside the light. The result is bright, even lighting without any wasted power.

You might imagine that lighting this powerful puts off some serious heat, and you'd be right. That's why L&M engineered aluminum cooling fins that control the heat and maximize the life of the bulbs. There's a tool-free mounting system that makes attaching and removing your light a breeze. Better yet, it's easily compatible with aftermarket mounts, including a head mount for precise beam placement.

The Light and Motion Seca 2000 Race light is available in the color Titanium. Please note that the battery, power cord, and charger are all included with this light.

Well-built, solid design

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My review is actually for the 1700, but the designs are exactly the same. I think the 1700 is being discontinued. The construction of the head unit cabling battery and accouterments that secure the light to your bicycle and helmet work very well. The rubber strap for the light hooks onto a piece that extends from the light like a straight hook, I will say that I am worried that design is asking to be snapped off. It seems to me something could have been done that is a more stout design resistant to crash failures. But this is a hypothesis of mine and not something that has materialized as an issue. The light spreads across in front of you in a very smooth manner that does not have stark transitions between light and dark. The battery Velcro system secures quite well to your frame. The helmet Velcro system for a headmounted configuration secures very well also. The whole thing comes with a little canvas zipper bag with the company logo on it, but in the heat of packing quickly it's a little too small for daily use. I give it four stars only because I have not put it through the ringer yet.
