Don't Get Stranded With This Pump
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought this pump because it looked like a good combo of low price and good ratings. Well, it broke the first time I had to use it. The plastic threading that seals the gasket around the pump shaft sheared off, and the gasket wouldn't re-seat properly. I kept trying to gently reassemble the pump but it wouldn't get air into my tire. I was in a rural area with no cell signal, but I was lucky a kind stranger passed with an air compressor and a presta valve adapter in his truck.

Exactly what I was looking for
- Familiarity:

I have always carried a mini pump as backup to co2. I've carried in my rear jersey pocket a small mini pump with a thumb chuck. Worked ok, but with the thumb chuck you have to keep pressure on the wheel while trying to pump. Can be difficult. Also, I learned the hard way that carrying the pump in a jersey pocket can be a painful experience during a crash. I landed on it once and thought I broke my hip...very painful. So after my most recent puncture in the cold I had a c02 failure and I had difficulty with the mini pump I had been using so I decided to search for a replacement. I wanted something small with an attachable hose. After some research, I purchased the Tech Drive, 170 mm pump. I'm a purest, but decided to use the supplied frame mount. It mounts tightly against the rear bottle cage. It's barely visible and tucked in out of the way and out of my jersey pocket. Perfect! It also is very easy to use and superior to a thumb chuck mini.
