Description

Get back in the saddle faster.

Flat tires are a lot like cramps, ingrown toenails, and taxes. They suck, but they're part of life. While there's no way to make a flat tire an entirely painless experience, the Lezyne Alloy Drive CO2 Kit makes a pretty solid effort. By removing the most common aggravations of the least aggravating portable tire-inflation system on the planet, Lezyne has successfully dropped flat tires from a six to a three on the one-to-ten pain scale.

The first and most obvious annoyance with CO2 inflation is the lack of control that you have over air pressure. It's either going full-bore or it's off. The Alloy Drive is controlled with an easy-to use trigger that gives you precise control over air pressure so you can achieve the perfect feel without messing around for 15 minutes. The second CO2 annoyance is the super-cold canister that you have to handle. This is especially irritating during winter rides. The Alloy Drive's canister insulates the cartridge so you don't have to deal with the cold anymore. It also adds puncture-protection, so you can comfortably crash on sharp rocks with no fear of explosion.

The Lezyne Alloy Drive CO2 Kit is compatible with either Schrader or Presta valve systems and takes threaded 16g CO2 canisters. It is available in High-Polish Silver or anodized High-Polish Red.

Great Investment

Psyched on this inflator so far. It's easy to use and has been thoughtfully designed. I particularly like the trigger's ability to control the flow of CO2. The insulation and protection that the canister provides is also a great feature. As mentioned in the description, it's compatible with both Schrader or Presta valves and the canister's big enough to fit cartridges up to 16g.

Does Lezyne make anything bad?

Responded on

Not a fan of their glue free press on patch kit. Never got it to properly, patch anything.

Great little tool

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Like many of you, I've used a number of different CO2 inflators with varying levels of quality and/or success. This one is easily the best I've ever used. Screwing into the presta threads is key and the trigger control is great (not unique among CO2s but definitely a feature you want). I use it without the canister...

solid pump

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have had zero problems w/ this pump. Works well and fills a 26" mtn bike tube without any issues. Not really a revolutionary design but it does what its supposed to. definitely would recommend throwing one of these and a handflu of cartridges in your pack.

Hard to seat a new tubeless tire

I wasn't exactly sure how to regulate the amount of air but when I went to seat a brand new tubeless on my rim, I didn't get enough initial pressure and ended up going through 3 canisters before borrowing an air compressor. I like the "all or nothing"lack of control inflators.

Good Value

The valve heads used in all Lezyne products are the bomb. No more messing with wonky micky-mouse applications and comes in a nice protective shell. Best value and best looking by far.

Responded on

The heads on their track pumps are lousy. The so called speed chuck leaks so much when you remove it, you lose a hopeless amount of air. Ruins a good track pump.

Excessive

The additional can seems excessive. Added weight/ size makes it difficult to fit in a regal (small) seat bag, along with two tubes. Prefer a smaller footprint.

Functional

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I like that I can essentially protect the CO2 cartridge in my jersey pocket, especially on the trail. CO2 regulation was good, but wish it was a little more "robust" in terms of tire filling pressure

Cool

Looks cool. Is light weight, and does the job. Definitely more fiddly though than the non-threaded CO2 option.

Does this require threaded cartridges or is is compatible with the non-threaded CO2 cartridges?

Best Answer Responded on

It looks deceiving but the Lezyne Allow Drive only uses threaded CO2. If they could have only made if use standard CO2 from walmart for a quarter it would be a lot cooler.
