Live, work, and ride.

Sure, you tear up the tarmac after work, but Levi's want to know why you're not riding everywhere, all of the time? Yes, we're referring to the two words that strike fear into the hearts of all Lycra-coveting man on earth -- bicycle commuting. Perhaps you've tried in the past, and perhaps your momentary feeling of accomplishment was crushed by sneers directed towards your cycling kit? Trust us, whether it be at the liquor store or the office, we've all experienced that 'huh?' look. Enter the Levi's Commuter 511 Trousers. Finally, you're able to ride, work, and live in one pair of pants.

These aren't some run-of-the-mill, one-off attempt at appeasing a subculture. Instead, Levi's worked closely with cyclists in multiple cities around America, distributing prototypes and accepting feedback. And, as a result of developing the pants in accordance to critique, Levi's effectively dialed-in the fit, accoutrements, and finishes to what cyclists are actually asking for.

Accordingly, Levi's adapted its slim-fit 511s to the purpose of cycling. The Commuter 511s feature a water-resistant and dirt-repellent NanoSphere protective finish to make commuting in hostile weather a little more acceptable, especially if your ending destination is the office. It's for this very reason that Levi's also incorporated an odor-resistant Sanitized finish to the pants, too. Levi's also made these pants perfect for trips where your bag is staying at home by installing a U-lock holster along the rear of the waistband. This way, you're not ramming your lock down your pants, wearing out your belt, or being forced to wear a fanny-pack -- you're grown man after all.

In terms of durability, Levi's double-layered the seat panel and the rear pockets. Additionally, the crotch of the 511 is gusseted in order to resist tearing and saddle abrasion. In terms of fit, it's important to note that Levi's considers the 511 as a slim-fit pair of pants. They sit slightly below the waist and feature a skinny, slightly tapered leg. However, for the sake of coverage while in the saddle, these 511s have been cut higher in the rear than a standard pair.

For the pockets, these trousers have been given slashed front pockets, like a chino, with built-in stretch webbing at the corners. Meanwhile, the rear pockets feature a welted design. And to increase your visibility to motorists in low-light conditions, Levi's incorporated reflective 3M Scotchlite tape on the interior of the pant's cuffs.

The Levi's Commuter 511 Trousers are available in the colors Black and Harvest Gold and in the sizes 30x30, 31x32, 32x30, 32x32, 33x32, 34x32, 36x32, and 38x32.

Love these. These are among my go-to pants. Perfect look for the office but with the technology built for commuting (and anything, really). True to size.

great pants for cyclists or bike delivery employees. they wear very well. only complaint was the color; showed up as more of a dark grayish hue for the color potion. a bit surprised to see the actual color. color ok for one pair of pants only. fantastic price though!!

Waste of Money

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

The seat of these pants is not designed for riding a bicycle. The material wears thin after 12 miles of riding.

Love these pants

These pants are so comfy with a nice stretch to them. Not to mention the fabric is nice it has water repellent and dirt repellent fabric to always stay looking fresh all day long!

I wanted to love these...

...but I just can't get over the "bike seat" shape on the backside. I tried these on and fell in love immediately, until I checked out my own rear end in the mirror. I understand the mobility needs and the reinforced seat area, but it just looks too much like padded bike shorts to wear to work. Could just be me, and to each their own. I wanted so terribly to buy these but just couldn't get past that 'pad' on the back. Try them on and see for yourself though, I seem to be in the minority here but I'm not sure how. Also, it looks like they addressed this for a newer version, so make sure you look at pics closely. I have both 511 and 504 commuter jeans that I love, hoping the new rear end on these trousers is improved.

Great Trouser

I had seen Levi's Commuter line advertised before and I wanted a pair of pants for a casual office environment, but comfy enough to cycle in. These seemed like just the ticket and so far I have not been disappointed.
I see several semi negative reviews regarding the stretch, and while I can't speak to older iterations of these pants being better than the current version, I can say that people need to have realistic expectations for these pants. They are not jeans, they are cotton trousers (i.e. "Dress pants), so they will obviously not stretch as much as cotton/elastane (spandex) blend denim jeans.

Ok fit

This is my second time purchasing a pair of these pants and I think they fit and look ok. They're a little bit ridged and shrink up a little bit after a wash or two. Bottom line - they are a very basic pair of pants that get the job done.

Not enough stretch

I love the look of these and the fabric is solid, but I cannot squat down on the ground without falling over. They just don't have enough stretch. If I sized up they would be baggy though.

Pretty Good

The quality and look was about what I expected. The style varies a bit between the different colors which is a little strange. Plain looking with a solid fit is how I would sum it up.

New colors, style changed for worse

I have two of these pants, older style from 2014 (dark spruce and potion), with the reinforced crotch & one turquoise pocket liner, that fit perfectly. Tried the current version (black and rosin) but the fit is much tighter, no reinforced crotch, cheaper feel overall. Time to return.

Just great.

Got the Darkest Spruce color, and was a little worried they'd be too much, but the color is great and goes with a ton of stuff. The pants are durable, and get more comfortable with wear. I wear them all the time, even when I am not going to be biking.

Best jeans ever

I've always just bought jeans from old navy or target for less than $20 because I figured who cares jeans are jeans. I pulled the trigger on some 511 commuters since they were a sweet deal at the time and now I'll never buy another type of jeans again! They fit just right, true to to size. They are very comfortable with a bit of stretch to them. I can even wear them comfortably for climbing and bouldering. They repel water and the coffee I spill on myself nicely. The reflective ankle addition and Ulock loop are great for all my cycling. Buy these heans

    Levi's Commuter Dark Spruce

I bought the Levi's Commuter denim in the Darkest Spruce color for my boyfriend and I think I love them more than he does. The color looks great with plaid or a gray or white top and is a fun alternative to your regular old denim. He loves the fit and wears them all the time.

      love them

I am a female, but I got these and they fit so well.

I am normally size 4-6 in women's, 5'6" tall, and the men's size W30 L30 fit perfect like skinny jeans on me.

      love them

      left wanting more

literally i now own about 3 pairs of these, they are great for biking but i use them as casual pants mainly. reflectors on the legs makes you visible to vehicles. and the gusseted crotch makes riding a dream. these are a tad slim fitting so keep that in mind

      Great Pant!!!

These pants are pretty rad. First I want to mention a cool feature for bikers is the reflective tape that Levi put up the seam on the inside. This way you can roll up your pant legs and now you have some reflective tape so cars can see you while your biking around.
These pants have some stretch to them and are pretty slim fitting. All in all these are a great pair of pants.

Great fit, fantastic for everyday use

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought a pair of these for myself (yeah, androgynous female, WTF) and a pair for my boyfriend. As a small hipped woman, these fit great and aren't weird in the hip and butt region. My BF has Keirin racer thighs and shorter legs, these pants fit him great. It should be said, the fit is a little weird. Go one size up from what you typically wear.

      Nice but...

I really liked these pants but they were too tight. I like my fair share of skinny pants but lets just say there wasn't enough room for the essentials. I had to send them back.
