A marvel of comfort and security, Lazer's sculpted Helium helmet may share appearances with the Genesis, but it actually incorporates an in-molded shell portion around the interior of the helmet's brow. Basically, this is an added safety detail that prevents the helmet from failure and also helps protect fragile foam from damage in a gear bag.

For improved crash protection, the Helium uses a woven composite, called silver carbon, that spans between the main ribs. Lazer calls it RBS (Rigidity Brace System) and it adds some serious strength to the design. To offset additional material, the Helium uses dual-density EPS foam that allows not only less heft, but 19 huge vents, too.

Because of this, airflow won't be a problem on hot days. Additionally, the helmet pads are made with X-Static, a fabric with antimicrobial, silver-treated threads to prevent a stinky helmet. The Helium benefits from Lazer's Rollsys retention system, which is a wheel tucked into the top of the helmet to take up slack in the cradle system. The Rollsys system creates one of the most even fits of any helmet on the market.

The cradle at the back of the head drops securely beneath your occipital bump, and since the wheel for the retention system is at the top and not in the back, there's room for ponytails.

The Lazer Helium Helmet is available in the sizes Small, Medium, and Large, and it comes in six colors.

Beware of old stock!!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just got my "new" Helium today. Problem is, the helmet was manufactured in 2010. It's a 5 year old helmet. Selling a helmet of this age should be disclosed to the consumer prior to them purchasing it. Competitive Cyclist offered to refund my money because they don't have any more in my size. I don't want a refund, just a new (not old stock) helmet.

Not real happy

I first bought the medium, because my head size was at the limit of the M size helmet. It was very uncomfortable with lots of pressure points etc. So I returned it and bought a large. The large is too big and looks goofy. I can live with it because it can cinch down on my head, but I am finding it to have a lot of pressure points also. I would return it, but I already cut the super long chin strap. I have since purchased a Kask Veritgo, and find it to be the most comfortable helmet I have ever worn.

I'm a Sweater

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really like the updates to the Helium. I've worn all of the top helmets from Bell, Giro, POC, and Lazer. I sweat quite a bit, so the gel pad in front is a nice change that helps move that sweat out of my eyes.
The retention system update is nice as well. It allows you to position the rear strap in the correct place to feel most secure. You can tell it is there, but it is still very comfortable. I like the Rollsys system being up top and easy to reach.

The one drawback for me is not having a place to put sunglasses. It doesn't have your standard glass garage, but you can make it work.

All-in-all this is one of my favorite helmets. The updates are noticeable and appreciated.

Good not great

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm simple when it comes to bike equipment. I just like things that work. if I don't have to think about it, then to me, its a good piece of equipment. I had to think way too much about the Lazer Helium on my head.

I've been in the Lazer Helium on the road and trail for about a month now and have had it in a variety of conditions. While the bucket looks good and it relatively light, there are some drawbacks to consider.

The Rollsys retention system is good and out of the way and the overall fit was comfy. The lid looks good too. I also like that I can't see the helmet above my brow.

While its decently lightweight, its not near light enough to warrant a name like "helium". Its not heavy but its no feather.

But the main drawbacks for me have to do with ventilation and sweat management. I find myself constantly feeling overheated in the Helium. Low speed climbs turned my head into a furnace. To compound the overheating, the super comfy gel forehead pad doesn't absorb any sweat. So not only am I hot, I have sweat running down my face until I can go fast enough to cool off.

So if you're in a cooler climate most of the time and want a good looking lid, this may work for you. But if you need good ventilation and don't want sweat dripping down your face, there are some better options on the website.

first helmet not a giro or bell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I tried out this helmet for a couple weeks and also had a family member try it as well to hopefully give a little more insight. Really both of us have the same comments or opinion so here it is. I thought the fit was very nice, one of the better fits due to the type of retention system. The pad on the front is a gel which was a nice change from the padding that comes on every other helmet out there. I put it up with some of the better helmets I've worn, maybe not the best but definitely up there. The other opinion was it was the best helmet he had worn to date. I would not quite put it at the level of the atmos or octal but a very well done lid none the less.

Great Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Very light helmet; it does not move on my head at all and is very comfortable. I don't even know that I am wearing a helmet while I'm riding.
