The women's version of Lake's CX402 Cycling Shoes are thankfully not pink or sparkly. In fact, if you find them difficult to distinguish from the men's pair, that's because the only difference is the last they're built on. Taking into account that women's feet are shaped differently than men's, Lake designed these shoes on a women's-specific platform but kept rest of the top-of-the line features from the men's version. The kangaroo leather uppers and with the Custom Fit carbon fiber soles provide a nearly perfect fit with race-ready stiffness and incredible comfort.
The supple kangaroo leather that Lake uses for the upper of the CX402's is known for being one of the thinnest, most durable leathers available, and its fit only continues to improve over time. When paired with the mesh panels along the upper, you get a shoe that's breathable while remaining secure on your foot throughout your pedal stroke. Dual BOA dials constitute an upgrade from previous versions of the CX402, allowing micro adjustments across the forefoot and heel separately. No more having to crank the entire shoe down until your foot is numb just to get your heel to stop slipping.
One of the CX402's most distinguishing features is its Custom Fit carbon fiber sole and heel cup. The process consists of three steps. Step 1: Heat the sole in a conventional oven. Step 2: Mold it to your foot — tool-free — to customize the fit under your arch and around your heel. Step 3: Take it to your next race so you can experience the improved power transfer and comfort that a well-fitting carbon shoe like the CX402 can provide.
