Description

Transporting your big rigs requires a beefy rack like the Kuat NV 2 Bike Rack. This burly bike rack hold them in place as you speed through several states toward dirty downhill freedom. The front and back tire-ratcheting design secures 20 to 29-inch wheels and leaves 13 inches between bikes to protect your components.

Kuat's chassis design takes into account all the little details to make your big bike party a breeze. The fold-up frame prevents rattling and damage on bumpy dirty roads and tilts downward for access to your vehicle's trunk. The hand-tight cam system makes for easy loading and unloading and a built-in repair stand permits pre-ride maintenance and post-ride clean-up.

For big bike party trips an add-on is available (sold separately and for two-inch version only) for extending the NV's capacity to four bikes. Integrated cable lock keeps your prized machines from getting jacked at random late-night truck-stops.

  • Two versions: one to fit two-inch hitch receivers, and one to fit 1.25-inch receivers
  • Folds up to reduce profile when not in use
  • Built-in repair stand
  • Integrated cable lock
  • Extensions to add two more bikes are available separately

Works better than expected

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have used several similar racks but this is really nice. My bikes don't move, don't touch, and I have peace of mind. It's so easy to put on the car and put bikes on and off. Great rack!

Great bike rack!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I went back and forth between a bumper rack and a rooftop. With all the great reviews I decided to spend the extra and purchase the NV 2. What a great decision. The rack is beautiful, easy to assemble and my bikes get a great ride. Never a worry going long distance and it comes with some nice extras. The built in cable lock and bike stand are icing on the cake. Spend the money. You won't be disappointed.

Best rack I've seen

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Kuat did a nice job with this one. I went with this model rather than the Sherpa because I wanted the option of getting the add-on later. Assembly was somewhat awkward but not complicated and the directions were very clear. I do appreciate that they included tools; I don't know where I would get a 20 mm allen wrench! I have two complaints which is why this didn't get five stars. 1) The cable lock is too short. It is hard to get both wheels and the frame locked. 2) The arm that secures the front wheels (which came assembled from the factory) has a little bit of play front to back and can be twisted easily. It really isn't very stiff and allows the bike to shake a little. I expected it to be better.

I've had this for two weeks now, and overall I am pleased. Time will tell if the arm starts to break down. Luckily I've heard that Kuat backs up your investment with very good customer service; hopefully I won't have to use it!

Sister loves it!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this to my sister and this is what she had to say:

This is the first time I've ever assembled a bike rack and once I understood how everything was supposed to go together, it was fairly easy to set up. I recommend having someone help you. Having an extra set of hands definitely helped. With two people it took about 1.5 hours to put together and that included a minor glitch. We put one of the arms on incorrectly adding about 15-20 minutes to the process. My advice from this error: pay special attention to the picture provided.

Once assembled, the rack was extremely easy to attach to the trailer hitch. Again, much easier with two people. A feature that I appreciate is the trailer hitch lock. Adjusting the rack up and down, with and without the bike on is a breeze. The pop up bike holder is an awesome feature for on the fly adjustments. I feel the bike rack is extremely stable and has plenty of clearance from the road. I haven't tried any other bike racks and really don't want to. Spend the money and treat yourself to this awesome rack!

Super Sturdy , Solid

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This rack was easy to assemble, and feels solid on the hitch.
The extra component of bike stand is super cool. Heavy bike rack to lift.

Major Upgrade

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I always had a little worry in my mind when I carried my fancy mountain bike on my old, flimsy hitch mount rack. Not anymore! The NV2 is super burly, holds the bikes tight, and doesn't wobble at all inside the hitch. It's loaded with other neat features like the cable lock and repair stand. I'd recommend Kuat to anyone looking for a bomber bike rack.

Solid!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I just got a new car with a bigger hitch receiver, so had to get rid of my old Yakima Hold Up - I thought I was stoked on that thing... But I'm way more stoked on the NV2!
Things I like about this rack:
- Looks awesome. Obviously this is at the top of the list.
- 3 keys for the cable and hitch locks! Likely going to lose one set, but super comforting to have a third.
- Repair stand! Super convenient for on the go fixes.
- Folds down so you can grab junk out of your trunk. Easy up and down.
Probably a lot of other things but those are at the top of my list!
Really stoked, highly recommend!

the best

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love this rack. Everything about it is easy and works well. It's easy to take on/off the car. It's easy to load/unload bikes. It feels secure while driving, especially since there is a knob to dial in the tightness in the hitch. And I love having the built in bike stand. Use it all the time.

Amazing quality and durability.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The NV 2 has exceeded all of my expectations in terms of durability and bike security. Though the rack isn't the lightest in its category for hitch mount bike racks, it more than makes up for that in build quality and longevity. *The built-in cable locks are a nice feature, however they are not for long term storage security. They are mainly there for quick runs into the store and side stops to grab a bite. I recommend always removing your bike and storing it safely indoors or even in the vehicle if you are away from it more than a couple hours. Installation of the rack is simple and Kuat has done a great job to ensure that the rack isn't rattling around in the hitch when you are driving. The attention to detail with anodized aluminum and a powder coat paint job make it the best functioning and best looking rack on the market.

Amazing quality and durability.

Takes time to assemble - easy to use!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Once you figure out the orientation of all the pieces and parts, assembly is relatively easy. Attachment to the car is a piece of cake. I love the feature of the anti-sway knob at the back to prevent any movement of the rack once it's installed.
We are coming from a Thule Freeway 5 rack (or something like that). Putting any more than 3 bikes onto that 5 bike rack was like solving a Rubix Cube and caused lots of stress and frustration. Putting bikes onto the NV takes about 10 seconds a bike and they do not interfere with one another in any way. The bars on my fat bike are uncut and they don't come close to touching the seat of my daughter's mountain bike. I'm unsure what people are referring to when they talk about the distance between bikes being an issue.
I've purchased the add-on, but have not installed it yet. I can't imagine the add-on will disappoint in any way. This is an expensive purchase, but it has been well worth the cost so far.

Thanks for the review Jay! Super helpful to get this feedback out.

Bomb proof!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

If you are considering the Kuat NV, stop wasting time and click order! I've only used the rack a few times so far, but it is incredibly solid. Absolutely love the ability to tighten the rack into the hitch receiver so there is literally no play/movement. The bikes sit very securely and mount in seconds. The only small complaint I have is the integrated lock cable is a little short. Kuat really knocked it out the park with this one. Every detail was well thought out, even down to the packaging. Best investment in quite some time!

Amazing Bike Rack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My parents recently upgraded to this from a non-tray style rack that holds bikes by the frame. Here's my Dad's review:

"The Kuat is the best bike carrier that I've ever had. It now takes me under 1 minute to load 2 bikes. It's built from very durable materials and it's very easy to use."

It's easy on the eyes too...

Amazing Bike Rack

Best bike rack

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So I've owned the Yakima and Thule version and the Kuat is by far the best. I really like the built in bike stand. It helps with repairs and quick adjustments. The quality is great and i would suggest it to anyone looking for a bike rack.

I thought I loved it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Then it started rusting. What the hell? I bought this less than a year ago and several pieces are rusting. I took it off for the winter. Shouldn't a legit bike rack be able to withstand 4 months of being on the back of a car?

Love this Rack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've owned the NV for about a year and it's fantastic. The bikes mount up rock solid with no wobble. The hitch and receiver are super tight as well . The internal lock cable is too short to be very useful so I use a longer, stronger one.

The only issue I had was with the chrome pieces (black and silver version) which started to peel after a few months of use. I expected a big hassle from customer service but they immediately sent me all new parts which were anodized silver rather than plated.

Thank you Kuat!

Great bike rack & hassle-free cust servc

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The lock on the cable came loose so I filed a warranty request. It was handled the next day and parts were shipped out in short order. Totally hassle-free customer service experience.

I use the rack for my road, 29er and my fat bike. It's easy to install on the hitch and bikes are easy to get on and off. Everything is very secure and doesn't rattle. My only complaint is the need to purchase an additional tire strap for the fat bike- I use a simple nylon strap I had sitting around instead. Overall, well worth the price if you frequently tote your bikes around.
