Kinetic Training Mat $60.00
Maintain your fitness without refinishing your floors.
When we're riding indoors the noise, the vibrations, and the pool of sweat on the floor are all signs of a good ride. The more the better, right? Of course, not everyone appreciates it like we do. Well-liked neighbors, landlords, and loved ones certainly deserve deference. It is for these people that the Kinetic by Kurt Trainer Mat is made.
The mat is made from half-inch thick closed-cell foam. It's thick enough to indent but thin enough not to feel mushy. It's also a good thickness for masking floor imperfections. The finish is textured on top, smooth on the bottom. The bottom is better for sticking to floors while the top helps prevent that pooling sweat from rolling off. The top is also slightly absorbent, so dripped chain lube won't slide off.
The Trainer Mat is also fairly big at 72in long by 36in wide. That's longer than your bike, plus the trainer. It rolls up to an 8in diameter to make storage easy.
The Kinetic by Kurt Trainer Mat weighs eight pounds. It comes in Black with the Kinetic logo in Green.

- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I didn't get this mat from Backcountry, rather straight from Kinetic a few years ago. I've used it for my KK Road Machine as well as Cycleops rollers. I think it does a wonderful job of keeping your floor clean and protected! I roll it up and travel with it regularly and haven't experienced the ripping/quality issues everybody else has. My only gripe is that the foam is textured on the top with small worm wood style grooves/channels all over (you can see this clearly in the photo). This is probably to increase traction or grippyness or vibration reduction who the hell knows, but you can't effectively wipe it off. Once a month or so I scrub and hose it off with soap and water. Not a huge deal.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
this item is good for keeping the sweat off of your floor but it is very cheaply made. Rips very easily. Not recommended
Tore first time I used it. Save your $
I rolled this out and used it twice. When I went to roll it up it was already torn. I expected a little more in the way of durability. Its really just thin cheap foam without much integrity which, in my opinion, isn't worth the investment.
I only did Sufferfest Angels and Sufferfest Revolver. What would happen if I attempted Sufferfest Local Hero?
