One look at Kali Protectives’ product line and you know it brings big and real ideas to the table. The brand has its priorities in check, too — observe the built-in camera/light mount of this particular Amara model. Rookie or not, Kali knows its customers.

But don’t just be sold by such doodads. The company is dead-serious about protection. A specially-engineered low-density EPS foam keeps as much impact shock in the helmet as possible without making its way to you cranium, and it wraps lower around the back of the head than most designs to prevent rear impacts. The visor breaks away in the event of a crash to prevent twisting injuries in a fall. And because preventing fatigue is as important to safety as preventing injury, the Amara features 17 gaping air vents to keep you cool. Lastly, the lightweight polycarbonate shell comes in a few fantastic color schemes, and the dual-closure adjustment system makes finding the right fit a cinch.

The Kali Protectives Amara Helmet w/Camera and Light Mount is available in sizes XS/S, S/M, and M/L and is available in the colors Cobra Magenta, Red/yellow, White/grey, White/pink, and White/blue.

Fantastic Value

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Size Bought: Small

This is not the most expensive helmet I've owned but for the price, I think it's pretty fantastic. I have what they call a "round-oval" head so it fits me perfectly. It vents well and the integrated, subtle, retro-reflective panels are a great touch.

Complaints: there's not an easy place to slip your sunglasses into the vents. Thats kind of a bummer. And the adjustment system is the old school ratchet, strap design instead of the rotation knob. The rotation knob is a better system, but so long as you are not adjusting the fit of your helmet to accommodate a sweatband or liner it doesn't pose a problem.

Great helmet , great price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Helmet fit great right out of the box. Have used on very hot summer days and head stays well ventilated and bug free. Helmet looks great too. Happy with the purchase.

Decent helmet for the price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great helmet for the price. Seems to stay in place while bouncing around on the trails. Didn't notice any venting issues while riding in 90+ degree temps so that is a plus. The biggest thing to be aware of is the manufactured date on the sticker inside the helmet. I ordered my helmet in June 2015 and the manufactured date is March 2013. So I received a helmet the was well over 2 years old. Kali's own literature states that a helmet should be replaced at least ever 3 years or sooner. Just make sure to check the date when you receive your helmet.

not compatible with NiteRider

I bought this because it said it has a NiteRider mount. It does not, at least for my NiteRider MiNewt 750. This was confirmed by a Kali rep. Sending it back. It is a comfortable helmet, though.

REVISION:
I was packing this up tonight, getting ready to send it back tomorrow when I decided to look in my old parts bin. I have 2 NiteRider Minewt 750 lights, one from circa 2010, and one from 2014. The 2014 model is not compatible. But, in the box from the 2010 light I found the OLD handlebar mount that does work with this helmet. The newer light is not compatible out of the box, but the old mount is available separately for $10. So, in the end, I'm keeping the helmet.

Protect yoself before you wreck yoself!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I needed to buy a helmet before I went to Moab and this was my first bike helmet in who knows how many years. While I'm not a fan of pink (I got the white/pink), I am okay with this since it's just a touch of pink and besides, I can't see it once the helmet is on.

I am very, very happy with this helmet! It fits and is super lightweight. I love how easy it is to tighten/loosen the helmet on the back part and my hair doesn't get tangled in it (then again, I am careful!). I have a cochlear implant behind my right ear and sometimes helmets can bother me but not this one. It's comfortable all around. It also looks good!! :)

The helmet ventilates incredibly well. I never felt hot; I felt comfortable the whole bike ride and the helmet also stays in place.

I can see that there is indeed a built-in mount on top of the helmet... I never knew about that! How cool! It's a subtle built-in mount and I haven't tried to mount anything on it yet... it looks like you just slide your camera or light on there.

I'm pretty stoked on this helmet and because of how pleased I am with it, I plan to look into Kali Protectives for other protection needs (knee guards and etc!)

I really want to like this helmet, but it is just brutal on my forhead. It feels like hard plastic, and there isnt anything soft or plush inside. Very rough and barebones. Wish I could return!
