In our minds, Juli Furtado is the definition of a badass. Today, she's best known for her namesake brand Juliana Bicycles, but her story begins long before she partnered with Santa Cruz Bicycles to produce mountain bikes and components built specifically for women.
For the uninitiated, her race results rank her as one of mountain biking's most dominant competitors. She won the inaugural mountain bike world championship in 1990, one year after being crowned US national champion on the road. In 1992, she won the downhill mountain bike world championship. Then in 1996, she won both the World Cup and NORBA overall titles. And that's just the highlights among a truly formidable competitive career.
But being a badass is about more than winning races. Throughout her career, and to this day, she has been a steadfast supporter of every aspect of women's cycling. From coaching clinics to developing products, she's been responsible for getting untold numbers of women onto mountain bikes, and she's showing no signs of slowing down.
