Juliana's Roubion frame is not only designed for the rigors of enduro and all-mountain riding, it actually enjoys triumphing over them all season long as the official bike for the hard-charging ladies of Juliana-SRAM on the Enduro World Series circuit. Whether your favorite trails are filled with berm roosting, railing tight switchbacks, or long, hand-numbing descents, the Roubion 2.0 Carbon R Complete Mountain Bike is a capable machine that can tackle all of that and more without taking itself too seriously. This year, Juliana made slight alterations to its geometry and the links in the VPP suspension to create a bike that's better equipped than ever to work with you on the trails.
We've spent a considerable amount of time singing the praises of 27.5in wheels, and for good reason. 27.5in wheels have quickly become the de facto wheel size for riders who want a bike that's nimble and quick when needed, but still able to blast through descents without feeling unstable, which is exactly what the wheel size achieves for the Roubion. Its 150mm of rear wheel travel works with the revamped VPP suspension platform to provide both confidence-inspiring plushness on harsh descents and efficient pedaling on the climbs. For 2016, Juliana updated the suspension links by mounting the upper link directly to the top tube, with the lower link tucked neatly out of the way to allow for a suppler ride over small bumps.
These changes to the suspension pair expertly with Juliana's slight, but significant, modifications to the Roubion's geometry. For 2016, the head tube angle slackens from 67 degrees to 66, creating a more stable rig at high speeds. Juliana didn't want this increased stability to come at the expense of snappiness on climbs, however, so it also steepened the seat tube angle by a degree to place riders in a power-generating position directly above the bottom bracket. Keeping up with current trends, it lengthened the top tube to integrate better with shorter stems and shortened the chainstays to 17 inches to give the Roubion better handling while cornering, allowing you to rail around tight switchbacks then accelerate quickly out of them in a race.
Juliana’s industry-leading carbon fiber construction surfaces in the Roubion Carbon R, although this version uses a slightly lower grade of carbon fiber than the higher-end Carbon CC frame. This means that Juliana's frame builders need to use more material to achieve the same amount of strength as Carbon CC for a heavier layup, but more palatable price tag. Both the front and rear triangles are constructed as a whole rather than bonded together from sub-assemblies. In addition to saving weight, this ensures that the Roubion doesn't have stress points or weak spots along its frame, as the fibers are uninterrupted by seaming.
A blend of Shimano's XT and Deore double componentry provides a dependable range of gear ratios, while its Deore hydraulic disc brakes allow for responsive stopping power no matter what the conditions. The Roubion's overall strength and stiffness are further enhanced with the mechanic-friendly, oversized 15mm collet-style hardware and the Boost 148mm rear thru-axles, as well as by Juliana's commendable decision to include a threaded bottom bracket on the Roubion. Abandoning the inconsistencies of Pressfit cups, Juliana trusts the mechanical dependability of a threaded BB to give you the peace of mind of a stiff, creak-free ride.
