The 2017 Juliana Bicycles Roubion 2.0 Carbon CC X01 Eagle Complete Mountain Bike lives for the chase of adrenaline over big drops and rowdy terrain. Designed to be the ultimate enduro race sled, this Roubion is kitted out with SRAM's groundbreaking X01 Eagle drivetrain, a dropper post, and fast-rolling Race Face ARC 27 wheels. Whether you're heading out for a short lunch lap or packing up the car for a weekend on the whole enchilada, you can clip in assured that this bike is up for the challenge.
It's no secret that we love the Roubion, and it's fairly easy to see why. First, responsive handling and fast rolling speed have made 27.5in wheels the default choice for riders who push it. The Roubion's six inches of rear wheel travel is primed to melt harsh trails, while the VPP suspension platform lends efficient pedaling on the climbs and produces imperceptibly smooth travel across multiple successive hits that other, over-engineered suspension designs still haven't been able to match.
The X01 Eagle drivetrain pushes the industry forward with its revolutionary 12-speed cassette. In a nutshell, Eagle lets you have the standard 10-42t cassette you've grown to love in your old one-by setup but introduces a massive 50t bailout cog that'll save your knees on steep, leg-searing climbs that normally would have you praying for the cycling deities to drop an extra gear out of the clouds.
For 2017, Juliana carries over the myriad updates seen in the mid-2016 2.0 geometry release. With 2.0, the top suspension link directly mounts on the top tube while the lower link tucks neatly out of the way to increase stiffness and durability while also smoothing the ride. The head angle drops from 67 to 66 degrees, which sounds like a tiny change, but it provides even more high-speed stability than the previous version. At 17.05in, the chainstays are long enough to keep you centered on the bike, yet short enough to allow the Roubion to carve up turns with ease.
Both the front and rear triangles are constructed as a whole, rather than bonded together from separate sub-assemblies. In addition to saving weight, this ensures that the Roubion is as strong as possible because the fibers are uninterrupted by seams, a common issue with other construction methods.
If you were to cut it in half, you'd find that the inside surfaces of the tubes have the same perfectly smooth finish as the outside, which is a result of construction techniques that maximize the compaction of the layers. The benefit is that it's lighter, because any excess epoxy is squeezed from the frame prior to curing, and this ideal degree of compaction optimizes the strength. Juliana further enhances the strength and stiffness with mechanic-friendly, oversized 15mm collet-style hardware and a 12x148mm Boost thru-axle out back.
