The Juliana Nevis Carbon R Complete Mountain Bike pairs vintage hardtail fun with modern materials and a new geometry to power through any number of trail excursions. Whether you're gunning for a QOM on the local ridgeline trail or planning out a multi-day adventure through your favorite national park, this bike is up for the task with style and comfort to spare.
For 2016, Juliana analyzed rider feedback and put the Nevis frame on an intense winter program. This year's version comes out dressed in carbon fiber with a slightly longer cockpit than previous version to improve handling and comfort out on the trail. The Nevis Carbon clocks in at about 280g heavier than its top-end sister, the Nevis Carbon CC, but comes with a hefty reduction in price in trade for that tiny weight gain.
At 69 degrees, the head angle is agile when climbing, but still leaves enough stability to keep you composed during high-speed descents. The roomy cockpit provides ample space to stretch out and get comfortable on longer rides, and positions you between the wheels for neutral handling. In other words, when you ask the Nevis to do something, it’ll oblige without fuss. But should you find yourself getting overwhelmed by the terrain, you can relax, because you’re riding a bike that’s capable enough to get you through hairy sections of trail with an XC pace and a grin on your face.
Juliana knows that trail riding is all about balance, so the Nevis' carbon layup is engineered to provide a blend of stiff speed, durable strength, and comfortable compliance in a lightweight package that's easy to throw around in the dirt. A tapered head tube along with a rear thru-axle and a beefy, 73mm threaded bottom bracket give this frame a stiff, responsive ride while the 27.2mm seatpost provides just the right amount of compliance for long days in the saddle. As an added bonus, internal cable routing makes for clean lines and a hassle-free setup.
The Nevis Carbon R build begins with a RockShox Recon Gold TK 100mm Solo Air fork to erase the bumps and soften the trail. The drivetrain consists of a mix of Shimano XT, SLX, and Deore components, with 22 and 36t chainrings up front and an 11-36t ten-speed cassette in the rear to provide ample gearing for a wide variety of terrain. A set of Shimano Deore M615 brakes pairs with 160mm rotors to keep you firmly in control on the descents. For the cockpit, Juliana supplies custom-sized grips and a women-specific saddle while a Race Face handlebar, stem, and seatpost keep the controls in check. The Nevis Carbon S rolls on set of 27.5in WTB STi9 TCS rims laced to SRAM hubs, and the whole package is wrapped in Maxxis Ikon tubeless tires.
