Built to pair with your favorite set of 27.5in wheels, the 2016 Juliana Furtado Carbon CC Mountain Bike Frame hits the sweet spot between the rolling speed of 29ers and the responsiveness of 26ers. Its 125mm of rear wheel travel also falls between short-travel race rockets and more aggressive gravity-oriented machines, while its perfectly neutral geometry will climb, descend, and handle with the best of them. The head angle sits at 68 degrees, which is slack enough for high-speed stability but aggressive enough for responsive climbing. At 17.1 inches, the chainstays are long enough to provide plenty of climbing grip, but short enough to keep the Furtado carving turns with ease — all of which it pursues with eager abandon courtesy of its light, stiff Carbon CC chassis.

Though it's a new model year, the frame is still built with Santa Cruz's top-end Carbon CC construction method and materials, which allow the engineers to use less carbon in order to hit stiffness targets. The frame is every bit as responsive as the less expensive Carbon C version, but its claimed weight is almost 300g less. Both triangles are constructed as whole, monocoque pieces, which also contributes to keeping weight low because the carbon can be wrapped through junctures and around joints. This eliminates the artificial weak points of bonded frames and actually requires less material in the process. While it's being cured, the frame is compacted from inside and out. This final step virtually eliminates any excess material and resin pooling, resulting in more structural integrity and, of course, additional weight savings.

Juliana's now-famous Virtual Pivot Point (VPP) suspension shines in the Furtado, well-loved among all levels of rider for its blend of pedaling efficiency and trail-erasing smoothness. VPP utilizes two aluminum counter-rotating links to achieve this balance. The upper link provides most of the rotation as the bike compresses towards the sag point, yielding a vertical wheel path that provides a firm feel during acceleration. As the bike compresses deeper into the suspension, the lower link activates, moving the axle path rearward. This rearward path enables the rear wheel to travel out of the way of impacts and technical terrain, increasing stability at speed for a smooth and controllable ride. You'll also find the same collet-style pivot hardware that's become standard for Juliana's suspension bikes, meaning pivots will stay tight and are easily serviceable at home if necessary.
