Say no to snow blindness.

Don’t cross a glacier or ski over a powder field on a bluebird day without blocking snow glare from all angles. With their magnetic side shields, the Julbo Bivouak Sunglasses go above and beyond to protect your peepers from eye-damaging light reflection. The wide Spectron 4 lenses offer essential coverage whether you’re alpine climbing or fly fishing. For everyday use, the side panels easily detach from these otherwise glacier glasses.

Just what I needed

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I ordered these glasses for a 30 day mountaineering expedition in British Columbia. I left the case at home and shoved the glasses in a sock to save weight during the bushwacking portion of my trip. High quality glasses that held up throughout my trip. Be careful with the magnetic side guards. I almost lost them a few times during the schwack on the way out!

Just what I needed

Great for sensitive eyes.

These Bivouak Spectron 4 sunglasses work very well. I have trouble finding sunglasses that look good and are dark enough but Julbo sunglasses are awesome and I own several pairs. The Bivouaks are pretty much as dark as I have found and work great for those very sunny days. I wouldn't worry to much about the fact that they are not polarized, the darkness makes up for it. These do have larger lenses so I can't wear a baseball hat with them, but they do cover a very good deal of visual range. The top sits on my eyebrows so they get a bit dirty from any oil or sweet on my forehead; however, I couldn't be happier with these...small price to pay. I definitely suggest these for people with normal to wide faces, but they do have adjustable arms so they may work for anyone. These are my go to sunglasses. Chive On!

Not bad if they fit

As Plake points out, the Zebra lenses are awesome. They dont seem to get super dark, but Ive used them above 19k' on glacier and they've worked fine. Definitely not as dark as they standard cat 4 lens (Spectron 4) from julbo. As far as the Bivouak goes, it's a great fully featured glacer glass, but the lense wasnt quite tall enough and the nose bridge not quite wide enough for my face. I had too much of a gap between the bottom of the lens and the bottom of my field of view. The julbo RUN is the best fitting julbo FOR ME. Everyone's face is different YMMV.

Julbo Bivouak Sunglasses - Spectron 4

After trying many of the more traditional Julbo glacier glasses and finding them very small fitting on my face and with what appeared to be very light arms the Bivouak is a great fit and super comfortable.

Can anyone comment on Camel vs Zebra lenses?...

Can anyone comment on Camel vs Zebra lenses? Specifically how dark and or light do they get. I have heard some people say Camels don't get light enough for driving.

    Thanks

    Court,
I would agree that the camel does not get as light as the Zebra. The camel lens is polarized so polarization tends on giving it a darker tint. Zebra is non-polarized which i prefer better for driving and low light situations.

With this type of wrap-around lens, can...

With this type of wrap-around lens, can they be ordered in presecription, or taken to an optician to have prescription lenses made & installed?

Most sunglasses with that aggressive curvature don't work with prescription lenses because it can make you feel dizzy. This is especially true with the higher the prescription. If you have a low prescription than you might be able to get away with a sunglass with that style curvature.

    Double Wow!

I hear size 7 1/2 or 7 5/8 hats and these glasses fit perfect on my face.
Been looking for what seems like years for glacier glasses that fit my melon head. Looking no more.

Magnetic side shields are easily removed if not needed. Retainer cord doesnt seem that it can be removed without some type of tool (wire cutter/linesman pliers come to mind)

Spec 4 lenses is one of heck of lense. Buy today.

The keeper cord is removable. You simply give a straight upwards tug on the end of the little "wire". The middle of the wire that goes back down into the plastic just snaps into place. All that is needed is to "unsnap" it from place.
Look closely at it and youll laugh that you didnt figure it out, it is quite simple.

      Great

Definetely big guys' glasses. I am 6'4" and got a big head. Normally sunglasses look small on me, these fit. Initially I was a bit worried about the air slits on the outside edge of the lenses (not on zebra version but the camel version). I thought sunlight would get through and make it too bright. These slits are so tiny that there is no problem with sunlight. The side covers are perfect. No light comes through from the side. And they don't look as huge and stupid as those side covers on glacier glasses. The only negative is the way the cord is attached to the arms. Mine were delivered with the cord on and I have no idea how to get it off without breaking the clip.

        Awesome

I purchased the white Bivuoaks with the zebra anti fog lens'....these things rock...they list as fitting medium size heads but I usually require large and these fit just fine....they are so comfortable i forget they are on my head....so far they haven't fogged up on me and with the wrap-around lens and the (detachable) side visors totally locks out the sun without cutting down on your vision...Awesome!!

An internet search for sunglasses that fit...

An internet search for sunglasses that fit over prescription glasses has the Julbo Bivouak on the list, but there is nothing in the description of the sunglasses that indicates they will actually fit over regular glasses. What's true?

Julbo seems pretty proud of their "optical clip" system that allows some of their sun glasses to attach to your prescription lenses, so they mention it with all the glasses that are compatible on their website. Doesn't seem like the bivouaks are. The shape of these makes it seem unlikely that they would fit over most prescription frames without some kind of clip also.
