Banish flexy wheels to the history books.

Nobody likes flimsy wheels, especially if you're riding a 29er, where wheel flex is most apparent. But with its proprietary aluminum spokes and a burly, yet lightweight rim shape, there's no reason to fear flex with the Industry Nine Enduro 29er Wheelset. They may be as light as other companies' race wheels, but the Enduro wheelset is built to withstand real world use under aggressive riders. And that translates into confidence in your wheels, no matter how hard you're pushing it.

While traditional spokes are drawn from steel wire, I-9 spokes are machined from 7075 aluminum. The spokes are straight-pull, and they have roughly a 25% greater cross section then comparable 14/15 double butted steel spokes. This translates into greater tensile strength. Threading on these spokes is also exclusive to Industry Nine. On traditional spokes, threads are rolled, not cut. This adds to strength, but it also creates a stress riser where the thread channel is narrower than the diameter of the spoke itself. However, Industry Nine doesn't need to roll its threads. Instead, they're created during the machining process, only they're cut so that the thread channel is the same as the spokes diameter. The threads themselves are actually larger than the spoke in order to create a strong interface with the hub. But, that's not all that I9 did to improve the Torch.

The new Torch hubs are now compatible with all axle standards via separately available end caps. The big news, however, is within the hub. The Torch preserves the 120 points of contact and the three degrees of near-instant engagement that's earned Industry Nine its cult following. Only now, the pawls have two teeth instead of three. Along with that, a changed cantilever angle, and a shallower tooth profile on the hardened drive ring, reduce freehub drag in comparison to prior iterations. Additionally, the Torch hubs incorporate a proprietary mechanism that features two sets of three pawls that are phased three degrees from each other.

The rear hub was tested to withstand 700ft/lbs of torque -- roughly what a built diesel truck puts out. So, this should quiet any fears of slippage when you're putting out full power. However, it's quick engagement that enables you to clean steep, technical trail sections. And with three degrees of rotation between engagement points, that won't be an issue.

I-9's engineers removed the large bearing between the freehub body and shell, opting for smaller bearings directly between the body and shell. The reduced bearing size means less seal surface area that, along with a new silicone lip design, significantly reduces mechanical drag. The freehub is also now easier to remove for cleaning/lubing, and like before, the springs and pawls are captured. Home mechanics rejoice -- this means that you won't be scrambling on the floor looking for small parts.

These wheels are built around a 32 hole spoke count, as opposed to the 24 hole construction that's found on some of I9's lighter weight offerings. The result is a wheelset that maximizes strength, which is especially important for heavier and more aggressive riders. The spokes thread directly into the hub in order to eliminate the nipple, save weight, and to boost strength. And they also use a standard 15-gauge spoke wrench and conventional truing methods, which makes truing and re-tensioning a piece of cake.

With a 26mm inner width, the Industry Nine's Trail rim is wider than many downhill specific rims, which yields an ideal profile with today's wider tires. They feature a double-wall design for strength, while keeping the weight down to a very respectable 520 grams per rim. This means that you gain a stable tire platform and confidence inspiring strength, all without paying a heavy weight penalty. Better yet, the wheels also provide an excellent level of stiffness for precise tracking on rough trails.

The Industry Nine Enduro 29er Wheelset is available with a 15mm front and 142 x 12mm rear thru-axle compatibility. It's tubeless-ready and comes in either the color Black or Red. Please note: these wheels ship with the Presta valve stems and rim tape already installed.
