It is the lowest-profile offering from Hoka One One, with only 1.4 times (as opposed to 2.2 or 2.5 times) the cushioning of a standard running shoe. The cushioning material is also denser, giving you a firmer ride with greater energy return. The Kailua is designed for mid-distance training or long-distance racing; it works for both heel strikers thanks to its extreme cushioning, as well as midfoot strikers due to its relatively low drop (5mm) and surprisingly sensitive road feel. The versatile 2mm lug depth on the outsole make this shoe suitable for both the road or the trail, or adventurous treks that call for a little of both.
