Strong and smooth rolling.

Popular for its super-wide rim profile, HED's Ardennes line has always been synonymous with smooth-rolling value. New for this year, the HED Ardennes Plus CL Road Wheelset adopts a wider 25mm rim for even smoother performance. Ultimately, the boosted width increases the tire contact on the road, providing more grip and increased bump compliance, especially over rough asphalt and gravel back roads.

The Ardennes Plus CL uses a higher stainless steel spoke count (24 at front, 28 at rear) for workhorse dependability, as required by heavier riders and 'cross racers. It features HED's Sonic hubs with full aluminum shells. The rear hub even has an external grease port for easy maintenance. Additionally, you'll find steel quick-release skewers, as well as factory-sourced rim tape for tubeless use straight from the box.

  • Tubeless-ready (comes with rim tape)
  • Shimano/SRAM or Campagnolo compatible freehub
  • 25mm rim width
  • Stainless steel spokes (24 at front, 28 at rear)
  • Compatible with 11-speed cassettes
  • 250-pound weight limit

For the hunky big man.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just purchased these wheels and have had a couple rides with them. My previous wheels were Mavic Ksyrium Elites, but they've cracked on two separate occasions so I needed a wheelset I deemed to be sturdier and able to handle my weight, currently at 218 lbs. I was advised by CC techs that these wheels, designed for cyclocross, would be very appropriate for my rides, even though I'm strictly a roadie.
I can say that my initial impression of the wheels are very favorable. They are very rugged, strong, and yet did not affect my speed in my group rides. I look forward to many more miles with these wheels. So far so good.
Lastly, and this is not an issue with the wheels, I did have issues with my brakes and them being able to accommodate both the wheels themselves, and brand new brake pads. It seems my brakes (SRAM rival?) were not designed to accomodate the wider HED wheels.
Looks, like I'm in the market for new brakes. Fun, Fun.

Unanswered Question

How hard is it to change tires on these wheels? I usually use Continental Gatorskins. I currently use DT Swiss wheels and changing the tires are a piece of cake. I had another brand and they were practically impossible to get on and off. I do not want a wheel that is difficult to change. Thanks for your time.

my new top trainer

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

As of this last year the HED ardennes have taken my top spot in everyday wheel. I had myself and my girlfriend ride them this last year and they surpassed the Mavic Ksyrium as my new go to set. They will perform like a race wheel and yet are bombproof. Incredibly stable in windy conditions, they get up to speed in no time at all, and roll perfectly smooth. Power transfer is phenomenal and I don't feel like I loose a thing when really winding them up. They are confident cornering at any speed and leave no worries about flex.
