No concessions.

If you're looking to ride gravel, dirt, mud, and the tarmac without making any concession to off-road stability or on-the-road efficiency, then GT's Grade Carbon Ultegra Complete Bike will surprise you. The Triple Triangle, when mated with carbon, makes for a stable ride on gravel and a responsive rocket on the road. Add to this the latest iteration of Shimano, Stan's NoTubes, and DT Swiss components, and the Grade Carbon starts feeling less like a gravel bike and more like a pro machine.

The iconic Triple Triangle design was first introduced 24 years ago and its simple effectiveness hasn't been surpassed to date. The sharper angle of the seatstay lets GT reinforce the stays, so they're more laterally stiff, and it also distributes road noise and bumps through the frame instead of just porting them straight up the seatpost. The seatstays are also thin, flattened, and slightly bowed to add a touch of bump-devouring compliance that the angled connection at which the chainstay meets the rear hub only contributes to.

The geometry is designed for all-day endurance riding, with a slack head tube angle to keep you comfortable and in control without feeling overly twitchy. The head tube is also tapered, which makes for more stability on a fast descent and better power transfer when you're enjoying the Triple Triangle's snappy acceleration by hammering out of the saddle. The oversized down tube and bottom bracket also help eliminate lost watts, so you put more power into the dirt, gravel, or asphalt. Finally, GT's Dual Fiber Dynamic tech involves the incorporation of glass fibers inside the carbon for additional responsiveness.

Since most manufacturers' pre-spec'd bikes seem to include proprietary wheels whose most admirable function is matching the paint scheme, it's rare for the wheels to overshadow the drivetrain. This also means that, when a manufacturer deviates from this formula, you know it means business. GT definitely means business. The rims are Stan's NoTubes Grails. The hubs are DT Swiss 240s. Seriously. We're not making this up. GT really went all out on the Grade Carbon Ultegra. And yeah, the wheels do also happen to match the paint scheme.

The drivetrain is also pretty damn impressive. The shift levers are Shimano's new hydraulic ST-RS685 11-speed model, which are the hydraulic equivalent of Ultegra. The rest of the drivetrain is full Ultegra — even the crank, which is our favorite part of the Japanese giant's new pro-level/consumer-price groupset. It's impossible to speak for Ultegra more convincingly than its impeccable operation and best-in-class aesthetics do. Just look at that crank. It's enough to make even an Italian racer blush, and if that doesn't do the trick then the seamless, effortless shift will. An FSA K-Force Light, Fizik Aliante saddle, and pair of Conti 28s round out the Grade Carbon Ultegra's kit.
