Essential in the rain

If you are really going to ride in the rain because you have to (commuter), or otherwise need to train in the rain, then you NEED a helmet cover. This is a great one.

Most of all, a helmet cover prevents rain from soaking your head. Of course.

But I also use a helmet cover in DRY cold weather. Why? A cover effectively 'closes' the vents in your helmet, improving aerodynamics and providing thermal protection in cold conditions. Of course, add a thermal cap underneath if it's really cold out (sub 45/50°).

Third, and why this cover is better than most (all?) others, is that Gore-tex *breathes* while being rain-proof; thus lowering the build up of sweat under your helmet. Important in cold weather.

Lastly, there is Gore's high quality of manufacture. The sewing and QC really is impressive.

*By the way, it's nice to add a water-proof cycling cap to your ensemble when you ride in the rain to shield your eyes (by Gore, Castelli, or Assos). Much better than cotton ones!

***And be safe riding out there in inclement weather with autos on wet roads. Buy the high-viz yellow cover.

I agree with you Jonny. I've worn mine in wet and dry cold weathers for two seasons and it delivers. The high-viz is the one you want--safety first.
