Sealed off from the elements.

Protection from the wind and water in a close-fitting, stretchy outer-shell is exactly what you receive with the new Power 2.0 SO Jacket from Gore Bike Wear. The Power was constructed using the proven WindStopper fabric, and it also incorporates a host of features designed to keep you warm, dry, and comfortable out there on your two-wheeled machine.

Similar to other protective outerwear layers in Gore's Power line, the Power 2.0 SO jacket was constructed using Gore's patented WindStopper Soft Shell fabric. This is essentially a fleece-lined, membrane-backed stretchy material that moves with you while riding. The characteristics of this fabric are ideal for exercising in cool and cold weather, as Soft Shell provides a light, flexible layer of insulation, yet it also blocks the wind and rain with its inner-membrane. WindStopper provides the comfort of a mid-layer and the water-resistance of a shell all in one. Additionally, this material's composition breathes incredibly well, which allows moisture to escape from within, rather than collecting inside and chilling your body like other membrane layers. This means that your body remains warm, dry, and comfortable during all of your rides.

Gore Bike Wear describes the fit of the Power 2.0 SO as "slim," which means that it stays close to the body without being constricting. The elbows are pre-shaped so that they don't tug at the underarms when you reach for the handlebars. Again, Gore Bike Wear took a minimalist approach when designing the Power 2.0 SO jacket, so there are only three pockets on the lower back panel. There's also a fourth zippered pocket that houses a detachable storage bag (LOKSAK) for sealing off your electronic devices from the elements. The cuffs are adjustable, the tall collar is fleece-lined, and there's a partially elasticized hem. Gore finished off the jacket with reflective elements on the front, sides, and back of the jacket.

The Gore Bike Wear Power 2.0 SO Jacket is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black/red, Neon Yellow/black, and Splash Blue/red.

Nice jacket but...

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

Jacket fits very well - I bought a larger size than usual due to reviews - and is awesomely warm. Windstop fabric works as advertised and I can ride in 40 degree weather with nothing underneath but a short sleeved jersey. Only complaint is that I feel like I am in a plastic bag. The fabric does not seem to let my perspiration escape and so I am wet as soon as I start to sweat. Especially feel it on my arms. Not real comfortable feeling, but to me the positives of the jacket outweigh this one negative. I will try this with a long sleeve base when the temperature drops a little more. Visibility of the bright yellow is a plus also.

Great Jacket

This is a great jacket. I was at the top of the XL size chart and sized down to a large based on reviews. It was too small, I am returning it for the XL. Sizing is tough with this jacket given the slim cut. Overall a quality jacket.

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times
    • Fit:Runs large

I am a full XXL by the size chart. I ordered an XL. I am glad I did. It fits much like a jersey would. There is no flapping in the wind or extra room. The arms are form fitting. A sweatshirt with bulky arms is uncomfortable. A compression top (or 2) fit great though.

The sleeves are just a tiny bit longer than a normal jacket. My winter gloves velcro right over the cuff and stay there.

The Jacket is plenty warm. I've worn this jacket with a UA cold gear EVO compression top under it. It was 28 degrees and windy. I was plenty warm and able to work up a sweat.

Finally the pockets are great. Real easy to reach into. I'd buy this jacket again.

    • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
    • Fit:Runs large

I'm at the top of Gore's size chart range for large but this jacket was just too big. Fit like a tent. Size down from their chart based on chest measurement. Even then I suspect you'll find a lot of extra material around the waist.

Could this be stuffed in a jersey...

Could this be stuffed in a jersey pocket?

    Responded on

    Hi Brad,

Probably not. The Windstoper softshell material is is warm and quiet, but is probably a little too high-volume to pack into a jersey pocket. Check out the Gore bike Wear Active Shell jackets (designated with an AS after the name) for jack3ets that are thinner and more compressible, but equally wind -and-waterproof.

    Responded on

Definitely Not ..You would have to tie it around your waist or it would need a day pack. Pretty much not taking this off for your ride so it has to be sub 50 degrees for this jersey/jacket. But it is perfect for cold rides, love it.

Great jacket for cold windy rides!

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Bought this jacket to replace a Performance windproof polar fleece that was about 13 years old.

    - Windproof as advertised. Have ridden in temps around 15 deg F with 15-20 MPH winds. Jacket worked great. Have ridden in 0 deg F also with 3 layers underneath, worked very well.

    - Fits well - sort of. I am 6' 1", 200 lbs, 34" waist. I ordered an XL and an XXL. The XL was too tight to fit any layers underneath (especially in the sleeves). The XXL fits very well and is snug at the waist.

    - Has a rubber/plastic pouch "tied" to the back zippered pocket for a phone. It fits an iPhone 4S with a normal size cover. I think it would be a tight fit with an iPhone 5.

    - No front pockets, but I may think that is a con just because my old jacket had them. The 3 rear pockets are nice. I was able to stuff my sunglasses in a rear side pocket while wearing Pearl Izumi Lobster Mitt gloves.

    - Cuffs not windproof. This is a problem riding in windy cold weather, because glove cuffs aren't windproof either. However - with the size XXL the sleeves have enough length that I can fold the cuff over in half and that's made a big difference.

I'm looking for something to put on before long mountain descents that can stow in a regular jersey pocket. Can this jacket fit in a jersey pocket?

    Food for thought
