The bib-free alternative.

Our male cycling friends have no idea what they're missing out on when it comes to being a woman and facing the age-old dilemma: to bib or not to bib. We're happy to acknowledge the obvious benefits of bibs for men, but our bodies aren't men's bodies, and we have obvious fit requirements that most bibs simply aren't compatible with. This fact doesn’t change when the temperature drops, so those of us who insist on a bib-free fit rely on Gore Bike Wear's Element Thermo Tights for cold-weather training.

This entry in the Element line eschews the fabrics found in the more expensive Element Windstopper bibs in favor of conventional synthetic blends that are brushed on the inside and layered twice as thick on the knees, which tend to suffer the most from cold. This means that you'll get protection and extra warmth where you need it and improved ventilation where you don't, all with a soft, wicking lining to keep you comfortable in the saddle.

For the chamois, Gore cozied up with chamois giant Cy-Tech's Elastic Interface division, which has developed a line of multi-density foam inserts for different body types and ride demands. The entire Element line has the women's two hour insert, and the Thermo Tights are no exception, making them just right for cold-weather rides meant to maintain form through fall and winter or start rebuilding a base in spring.

The tights incorporate an elastic waistband to dial-in the fit and keep them in place. Our gear experts estimate that this makes bio breaks approximately 1,000 times easier than with bibs. Reflective highlights help keep you visible in the low-light conditions that you'll eventually encounter while using these tights.

The Gore Bike Wear Element Thermo Tights - Women's are available in sizes ranging from X-Small to XX-Large in the colors Black and Black/neon yellow.

Not awesome for winter weather

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these tights because I've been wearing my husband's winter riding tights. I get it, I live in MN, and it's cold here. I was hoping I wouldn't feel like I needed anything but one pair of tights. There is no wind screen in the front of the pants and the sides of my hips FREEZE in 25-30 degree weather. The extra layer in the knees is nice, though. I agree with the previous commenter that the chamois is really large and it feels like I'm wearing a diaper. I would not recommend these particular tights to anyone hoping to stay warm in cooler riding weather.
