Protection that you can rely on.

Believe us, we hear the claims of 'windproof' and 'waterproof' thrown around more than we're able to stomach. And in our opinions, there are only a handful of manufacturers that're actually capable of supporting these claims. First and foremost on the list is Gore Bike Wear. Yes, the same Gore that's behind the Windstopper and Gore-Tex materials. So, if going straight to the source is your modus operandi, we recommend Gore's Countdown SO Light Jacket for your spring/summer all-mountain riding.

Gore used its venerable Windstopper Soft Shell fabric. As its name implies, Windstopper provides an absolute level of protection against the wind, defining itself as utterly windproof. However, what you don't take away from the title is that this material is also water-resistant. Now, it's worth noting that Gore's designation of 'water-resistant' is superior to other manufacturers' insistence of 'waterproof.' This combination of attributes falls inline with what Gore calls its Outfit System. Within this system, there are three layers of apparel with three specific functions. The first layer is for moisture management, the second layer controls thermo-regulation, and the third layer, such as this jacket, provides weather protection. Accordingly, Windstopper will repel water, shed snow, and block out any wind, all while remaining highly breathable.

Due to its polyester composition, the material remains soft against the skin, while also providing complete freedom of movement. After all, Windstopper is essentially a lightweight inner-membrane of the polyester fabric. So, when coupled with the anatomic, countered cut of the jacket, you'll find that the Countdown provides a fit that's free of any pinching, bunching, or chafing while in the saddle. In fact, this lends itself directly to the pronounced ideology of the Countdown line -- all-mountain versatility. Gore designed this jacket to provide both protection and comfort throughout various terrain and riding styles. So, you'll find that the back hem has been elongated, there's an elastic binding on all of the edges, the elbows have been pre-shaped, and the overall fit is fairly relaxed. For even further comfort, the jacket also features flatlock stitched seams throughout the construction. This minimizes the height of the seams, eliminating the risk of abrasion at major points of articulation.

And if you're out for a long day on the trails, you're going to need ample and accessible storage. Accordingly, Gore included two concealed front pockets, one zippered Napoleon chest pocket, and a zippered rear security pocket. For increased visibility to motorists in low-light conditions, Gore has also placed reflective accents throughout the jacket.

The Gore Bike Wear Countdown SO Light Jacket is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black/graphite grey, Graphite/kiwi, Red/black, and Splash Blue/red.
