Technical and stylish.

Many mountain bikers, above all, seek versatility in their clothing. We see the Gore Bike Wear Countdown 2.0 SO Jacket as a perfect outer layer for epic off-road days involving singletrack, chilly weather, and a post-ride recovery beverage at the local pub. Meaning, it provides the technical features you need to be comfortable and warm on the trail, while maintaining a look and fit that are appropriate for appearances in public.

The Countdown 2.0 SO Jacket is constructed of WindStopper Soft Shell fabric. WindStopper Soft Shell is soft, stretchy, breathable, and body-contouring. It fits and breathes like a comfortable mid-layer, yet it offers a level of water and wind resistance that approaches the protection afforded by a hard-shell jacket. Gore Bike Wear gave the Countdown Jacket its Comfort Fit, which means that it has an athletic cut, but it won't squeeze the life out of you. It has a long back to ensure full coverage of your lower back, and a high, fleece-trimmed collar to keep warmth in and the elements out. The zipper is supplied with an underflap and garage to keep it tucked away nicely when the jacket is fully zipped.

You'll find three pockets on the Countdown Jacket, and they all zip for secure stowage. There's a Napoleon pocket in front, and a two-part back pocket. The sleeves have elastic cuffs with thumbholes, so a gap won't form between the cuff and your glove. Additionally, elastic is used at the waist to keep the jacket from riding up. Fall rides often happen under low-light conditions, so Gore Bike Wear put a reflective logo on the front and back of the jacket, along with added reflective piping on the back.

The Gore Bike Wear Countdown 2.0 SO Jacket comes in sizes Small through XX-Large and in five colors: Black, Neon Yellow, Petrol Blue, Pool Blue, and Red.

Great jacket!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Simple jacket, not too tight, perfect for trail riding and could easily do double duty on the road. Really love the windstopper fabric (soft, a bit of heft but not too much) and the thumb loops. Only issue with gore is sizing as it changes drastically accross the various products. Not a bad thing, just need to know how each fits differently eg. I originally bought the phantom which is meant to me a tighter jacket and the xxl felt tight in places (shoulders) and too big in others (hem length) whereas a large in the countdown fit me perfectly (I'm 5 11 and 180lbs). However backcountry has the best return service so there isn't much of a downside if you get it wrong.

Great top

I seem to be a good temperature over a wide range of temperatures and conditions. I usually wear a thermal underneath in the mornings. Windstopper works great and really nice thumb loops. Back pocket and breast pocket are also really functional. Buy one!
