Description

One pair of shorts for the whole mountain.

Sure, you'll be able to find various 'all-mountain' shorts with a minimum expenditure of effort. However, we challenge you to find anyone, besides Gore Bike Wear, that devoted an entire subset of its vast apparel line to all-mountain conditions. With the Countdown 2.0 Shorts, Gore took into account all of the precarious variables that the all-mountain rider encounters. And accordingly, these shorts provide unprecedented levels of comfort, flexibility, storage, and durability. Essentially, Gore created one pair of shorts for every part of the mountain.

While many shorts that bear the self-appointed 'all-mountain' classification are constructed from materials like Cordura or other stuffy and stiff fabrics like it, Gore used entirely different approach for the Countdown 2.0. Instead, Gore opted for a 100% nylon composition, ensuring the utmost in breathability, moisture management, and freedom of movement. This isn't to say that the shorts are flimsy, far from it. Instead, you'll find varying thicknesses of nylon traced along the shorts. The lighter areas are focused at points of heavy articulation like the knees, quad panels, and hips. Meanwhile, the thicker compositions are targeted at points of abrasion like inner- and outer-legs and the seat panel. Collectively, the design strikes the ideal balance between strength and purpose.

However, Gore wasn't finished with this ideology after it selected the fabric. Instead, a special focus was placed on both fit and construction. Starting with the latter, these shorts feature shifted seams that move the seams away from the locomotion of the legs. Accordingly, your legs aren't confronted with the seams during the pedaling motion, and thus, chafing as a result of movement is eliminated. Furthermore, the cut of the shorts lends itself to further reducing abrasion by essentially being pre-shaped to the cycling position. In simpler terms, the shorts are cut on a contour in order to adapt to your position in the saddle. So, while you move, the shorts move with you, not against you.

Securing this fit is a partially elastic waistband and a concealed front zipper. There are also belt loops sewn into the waist, should you choose to don a belt on your ride. Additionally, the interior of the shorts feature a simple-to-use tape and snap system to secure a pair of Gore liner shorts.

For storage of your ride essentials, the Countdown 2.0 includes two front hand pockets, two Velcro side pockets, and zippered rear security pocket. Gore has also included reflective accents throughout the shorts in order to increase your visibility to motorists or fellow trail-users in low-light conditions.

The Gore Bike Wear Countdown 2.0 Shorts are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black and Graphite Grey/black.

Poor

I have a few pairs of MTB shorts, but decided to splurge and buy some of these, since GORE is supposedly known for good quality. I rode one time for 3 hours and there is a hole in the crotch. I just don't understand why the cost is so high when the durability is so low. Maybe I got a bad pair, but I doubt it.
