Shorts for the entire mountain.

While all-mountain riding covers a broad spectrum of styles and trail conditions, its definition remains poignant and absolute -- ride the entire mountain. And as you'd expect, designing apparel to fit this diverse range of needs becomes problematic for most manufacturers. Not so for Gore Bike Wear. With its Countdown series, Gore has created an entire Outfit System to meet the needs of the all-mountain women, and Countdown 2.0 Plus Women's Shorts reflect the pinnacle of this objective.

While many shorts that bear the self-appointed 'all-mountain' classification are constructed from materials like cordura or other stuffy and stiff fabrics like it, Gore used entirely different approach for the Countdown 2.0 Plus. Instead, Gore opted for a 100% polyester composition, ensuring the utmost in breathability, moisture management, and freedom of movement. This isn't to say that the shorts are flimsy, far from it. Instead, you'll find thicknesses of polyester is durable, abrasion-resistant, and highly breathable. This play directly to what Gore calls its Outfit Systems. Essentially, like the Countdown lineage, this system ensures the right tool for the job. It's comprised of three layers, each with its own purpose. Layer one provides moisture management, layer two (where these shorts fall under) provides thermo-regulation, and layer three provides protection from the elements. So, it's easy to see that these shorts perform their appointed function dutifully.

However, Gore wasn't finished with this ideology after it selected the fabric. Instead, a special focus was placed on both fit and construction. Starting with the latter, these shorts feature shifted seams that move the seams away from the locomotion of the legs. Accordingly, your legs aren't confronted with the seams during the pedaling motion, and thus, chafing as a result of movement is eliminated. Furthermore, the cut of the shorts lends itself to further reducing abrasion by essentially being pre-shaped to the cycling position. In simpler terms, the shorts are cut on a contour in order to adapt to your position in the saddle. So, while you move, the shorts move with you, not against you. Perpetuating this concept even further, Gore also incorporated stretch inserts in order to create an even higher level of flexibility and comfort.

Securing this fit is a partially elastic waistband and a concealed front zipper. There are also belt loops sewn into the waist, should you choose to don a belt on your ride. Additionally, the interior of the shorts feature a simple-to-use tape and snap system to secure the included Inner Lady Tights+ liner shorts. These shorts are highly malleable due to their composition blend of both elastane and nylon. Additionally, this structure makes them incredibly soft and highly effective at managing moisture, which is further propagated through the installation of mesh ventilation panels. So, given the past explanation of Gore's Outfit Systems, the Countdown 2.0 Plus features both layers one and two. You'll also find that these inner shorts include an Elastic Interface Technology (EIT) chamois. This insert provides anatomic support to the regions that need it most, not the one's that don't. As a result, the chamois conforms to your body, following your every movement in and out of the saddle. This means that chafing and pinching are both eliminated, accordingly providing an exceptional level of comfort.

For storage of your ride essentials, the Countdown 2.0 Plus includes two front hand pockets, one zippered side pocket, and a concealed rear zippered security pocket. Gore has also included reflective accents throughout the shorts in order to increase your visibility to motorists or fellow trail-users in low-light conditions.

The Gore Bike Wear Countdown 2.0 Plus Women's Shorts are available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the color Black/graphite grey.

Here's what others have to say...

Initial Impressions: Great!

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:Runs small

Very cool shorts. I usually wear a size 4, and the Medium is almost snug (aka, perfect)! These seem to run small though. The chami has 3 red straps that clip it into the shorts, meaning they can be separated: So you get 2 items (shorts and then a nice chami) for the price of 1!! The material of the shorts is very light and stretchy too, I'd highly recommend these!
