Great buy!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So glad I purchased this jacket. I tried it on in a bike shop and actually bought one but got the best deal with BACKCOUNTRY!!! I could have did a medium but got a large to add extra clothes...and it fits like a large. It's not too big, I have longer arms but it does not look sloppy at all. My thumbs fit comfortably in the slots and adds better coverage with that thumb thing.

It's a flattering length, I'm 5'7 & 1/2 and weigh 140. This jacket kept me warm in 35-40F degree weather with no issues. All I had under it was a base thermal and then the jacket. I have it in the bright blue and red. Great buy!

Doesn't anyone out there have shoulders?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Okay, so upper body musculature is not conducive to cycling performance: extra weight that doesn't equate to better performance. I'll give you that. But at 5'7" and 145, I'm not that big, I just have some big shoulders and biceps from years of swimming and weightlifting (triathlon, anyone?). Needless to say, the medium size I usually wear is not a size I can wear in women's cycling clothing. So, I ordered a large in this jacket, hoping it would accommodate my shoulders. No such luck. The waist and length are perfect; I love the warm fleece lining, and this jacket is really great on cold winter rides. But it is too small in the shoulders! I'd order the next size up because I liked the jacket so much, but found that the small, singular, zippered back pocket is basically non-functional. It's too small to carry a cell phone, snack and beanie in case it gets really cold. I am returning this jacket and will probably save my pennies to buy the ultimate jacket: the Giordana Forma Red Carbon.

Thanks for the tip: I've a build similar to your description...most tops/coats etc. just never fit well. Also had my eye on the "Red Carbon" for awhile, ordering it (need a jacket NOW, wish I could wait longer). Will up-date results later. Look forward to you experience with this jacket when you get yours!

See review(s) on the FR Carbon jacket page...worth it!

HIGHLY recommended!

AMAZING! Bought this jacket and shipped it all the way to Australia..first morning it went out in -2 degrees celsius weather..didn't feel a thing! Was warm and toasty. Can't recommend this product near enough. AND real cyclist and the service they provided was next to none. Great experience. Highly Recommend!

What's the waterproof rating on this...

What's the waterproof rating on this jacket?

    Hi Alice,

This jacket is highly water resistant, but it is not seam taped. It is fully DWR coated and it is 100% Windstopper - which is highly breathable, wind proof and water resistant. If you are looking for guaranteed waterproof, you should look at Gore-Tex jackets.

    Hope that helps,

    unbridled recommendation

i'm a newbie biker. for cold and wind this jacket is awesome. took it out today for 40 miles on a 58 degree 30 mph wind day and didn't feel a thing. zipped up at the neck for the cold spots. unzipped for the sunny warm spots. perfect. i'm 5' 4" 120 pounds and ordered the medium. it is a good fit and i think the small would have been too small. Gore rocks. can't wait to buy more of their gear.
