Description

Tell the wind to take it elsewhere with the Lady WindStopper.

It's a common cycling experience: One minute you're cruising along with the sun on your back, warm as could be, and the next minute, the sun has retreated behind some clouds, you've climbed a thousand feet or so, and all you can feel are the wind gusts chilling you to the core. The Gore Bike Wear WS Short-Sleeve Women's Base Layer's WindStopper fabric will help you push through those hard-to-predict climate changes.

Upon closer inspection, the WindStopper membrane in this base layer covers your front, shoulders, and kidneys. The rest of the layer is made of a polypropylene/elastane blend that wicks sweat away from your body and stretches with you. In terms of warmth, the WS Short-Sleeve Women's Base Layer lies between the WS Long-Sleeve Women's Base Layer and WS Sleeveless Women's Base Layer. The short-sleeve design covers critical heat-carrying arteries in your shoulders and upper arms, but gives you more planning flexibility than the long-sleeve version. After all, you can pocket arm warmers to use on your ride, if needed.

The Gore Bike Wear WS Short-Sleeve Women's Base Layer has flatlock seams to reduce abrasion and an extra-long back. There's a reflective front logo at the base of the neck, which provides an added glint of visibility if you're riding with your jersey or jacket unzipped. The WS Short-Sleeve Women's Base Layer is tight-fitting and comes in sizes X-Small through XX-Large. You can choose Black or White.

Here's what others have to say...

Under a short-sleeved jersey...

Under a short-sleeved jersey...

Here it is under Gore's ALP-X 3.0 jersey; the sleeves don't show, nor does it hang below the jersey's bottom hem line.
The overall fit isn't as sloppy as it looks here (the jersey, ALP-X 3.0, has a relaxed-fit...so unlike Giordana, which of course is made to be aero dynamic; but it lets tons of air flow through the mesh back and front sleeve area). The base layer also has a mesh back, so that together you are pretty well ventilated air/heat flow from/on back area (even with a pack). But on the down side, if the wind changes direction, watch out! Be sure just to take along a good jacket, just in case!
Overall, this base layer does just what it is designed to do; and very light weight.

A sleeveless version is also available, for under singlet's.
There's a long-sleeved zip mock Windstopper base, too...a definite need for cooler/colder blustery rides; and the zip helps to vent heat a little, too.
I like the utilitarian-ess of the almost wrap around (but not really all the way around the front) back/side pockets of the jersey...you can actually access them on board.

Oh America, what has happened to you???

Great base layer, anyway.

*Will post any quality problems, if the arise.

Final Note:

Final Note:

Note that ALL Windstopper* products are only windbreakers (and excellent, at that), but they are only water resistant, not water-proof.
When looking for a water-proof jacket, look to Gore's ALP-X GT 2.0.
And the ALP-X jersey is a great mid-layer, too.

Breathability...Gore wrote the book:

Breathability...Gore wrote the book:

Totally works. Prevents moisture build-up, which in turn leads to coldness, etc. While this is the ultimate windbreaker fabric, it's not, in and of itself, the warmest base. You will still want a good warm, weather-resistant jacket for winter/rain.

What's in a name???

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

WINDSTOPPER! That says it all! Went on ride this past week-end, it was cold, and very windy...had the long-sleeved version on and what a difference it does make! Totally worked, did not overheat; only wind I felt was when it shifted from behind (the back is just mesh) and the wind still cut through the back of my jersey and jacket (, but it was extremely windy. Should have also brought my Gore alp-x 2.0 windbreaker for over top all. This was the first time I've ever worn this baselayer (had been just using U.A. Coldwear baselayers) and so glad I had it on, I'm sold! Got this short sleeved version for that in-between season. Totally light weight, yet so effective. Should be a staple in everyones' bike-wear closet, male or female!
