Winter riding generates plenty of heat, but when perspiration and wind enter the equation, your ride can be ruined. Luckily, the Gore Bike Wear ALP-X 2.0 SO Pants block that chilly breeze with the lightweight and breathable, WindStopper soft shell fabric.

This patented material ensures that the legs stay warm and dry. It does this by maximizing breathability while completely blocking out any wind. Additionally, WindStopper is water-resistant, and its malleable composition is totally free from abrasion. Along these lines, WindStopper's inherent stretch, combined with a slim, anatomic cut, permits the movements of cycling without restriction. Another advantage of the cut is the elimination of that annoying fabric flap when you're setting a fast pace.

The waistband is elastic, and it features a width-adjustable hook-and-loop strap that comfortably holds the ALP-X in place. The lower legs have width adjustment capabilities to clear chains and rings. For durability, Gore has also reinforced the pants at the saddle to ensure that these winter pants last season after season.

For storage of your valuables, the pants have two rear zippered pockets. For extra ventilation, Gore also included side mesh inserts with an adjustable zipper. And knowing that you're inevitably coming off of the trail at some point, Gore incorporated reflective elements throughout the pants for heightened visibility in low-light conditions.

The Gore ALP-X 2.0 SO Pants are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black and Castle Grey.

Couldn't be Happier

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

I’ve worn these pants a dozen or more times now, with rides as cold as 28 degrees (wearing thermals) and as warm as 59. They are very comfy, fit and wear well. On one ride in particular I got a bit turned around (no surprise there) and had to trek through a creek and thick brush that snagged the pants a few times. I thought for sure I’d put a hole in them, but they did just fine.

Love. These. Pants. I had to send back the first pair because they ran a bit small. I wear a 38 waist in jeans and had to send back the large for an X-Large, but guuuurrlll lemme tell yu hwaht... omg these pants make my butt look amazing. Do you know how impossible that is for a man my size? Now I can ride my bike down the boardwalk without being self conscious about the girls giggling at my beautious gluteous.

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

This is a great pant for winter biking, I have used it over a pair of cheap tj-maxx tights down into the teens and ended up having to open the vents because it was really that warm. I can't see myself using these when it rises above 40 degrees, so if you're going to buy these you should view this as a single season investment. What I really like about these pants is the cut- nice and slim with nothing flapping around, but still not uncomfortable in any way. I have a 32" waist and 31" inseam and the medium was a perfect fit.

Nice Windproofness, less durable

Nice built pant. Fully windproof. When in the strong wind, it is better than my Pata Super Alpine jacket which is made of Gore-Tex Pro-shell.

I use it for running instead of biking. I don't bike. In early morning running, it works very well in the late winter and spring. I use it also in the late spring and early summer with the vents and pockets fully open. Great for people who has coldness-sensitive knees.

    I am 5-6, 135lb. Bought S.

    C O N S :

It is so easy to be hooked by some not-so-sharp hardware. I got one hole in 1st weeks. I am not abusing it. I don't even know when did it get the hole. I dont have anything hard with me when I use it.

    Really liking these for Fatbiking

After trying various pants options for winter biking on the fatbike I decided I needed something that would keep me dry and have somewhat of a form fit. These pants turned out to be a great solution. They keep you plenty warm and if it's too cold an extra layer can be added underneath. The water protection is there also and there are plenty of venting options when things warm up.

Great pants at a great price!

I originally bought these for an upcoming bicycle tour in Switzerland. However, I've been using them the past few weeks for my weekly night time MTB rides. They keep my legs warm and comfortable and if I start to overheat the generous leg vents add needed airflow. I've also encountered some decent rain on a few occasions and they have kept me much drier than anticipated.

At first I was concerned that the lightweight material wouldn't stand up to the thick brush and Manzanita we have in SoCal but they've held up great so far. They have even held up to a couple of OTB crashes into the brush as well!

Overall I'm quite impressed with these and have purchased a few other Gore items too. Every one of their products has been impressive!

Update: These really came in handy on my Switzerland tour. I ended up riding in some sleet and snow when going up Albula Pass and these kept me warm and dry.

My only complaint is that the Velcro is really aggressive and rough on my gloves and jerseys. After I got home my gloves were shredded from the contact with the Velcro. Still 5 stars though!

      Initial Thoughts

I just received my ALP-X 2.0 SO pants. My initial thoughts are that they look very well made, extremely soft and good looking for the trails in cold weather. They fit to the body but extremely comfortable at the same time. I will update my review once I put them to the test on sub 30 degree weather. (Soon!)
The pants are true to their statement, but as an athletic person with thick legs, I felt I needed more room. they are form fitting which is exactly what the ad says. Unfortunately I didn't get to put them trhough the test as I returned them and I am now waiting for the FUSION SO one size larger in order to feel more loose while also wearing the bibs underneath... I will post on the Fusion SO pants once received.
