The single unit.

Instead of being shorts and undershorts, the Alp-X Pro 2-in-1 Shorts from Gore are a single unit where the bib straps are connected to the shorts, making them extremely lightweight and unfussy. No waistbands to get in the way, no exposed back, no tearing of road-specific Lycra.

The chamois that Gore uses here is their Alp-X Pro Men’s insert. It has been specifically designed for long and demanding off-road rides. Using a 3D construction to enhance moisture management, the shape with the central channel accommodating the male anatomy will increase bloodflow and reduce the possibility of getting numb. It is a super-high density insert that has padding specifically placed to provide the ultimate protection and cushioning support.

The outer shorts material is a highly functional mix where you have abrasion-resistant material around the inside of the leg, the saddle area, and the sides so that you will be protected from the occasional crash, and you won’t have to worry about snagging delicate spandex when you plow through some branches. Splash-resistant fabric on the back will protect you from getting soaked on wet or muddy trails, and mesh inserts in the front and back of the outer shorts provide the ventilation to help air things out. And a side mesh pocket will give you a place to stash your energy bars or gel packs for easy access.

The bib straps are a full mesh construction to prevent you from overheating by making it easy to ventilate. A radio pocket at the back of the uppers has been provided either for race situations, or so you can have your iPod there when you are training. Reflective logos have been placed on the back and side, so that you can alert drivers to your presence on the road if you are rolling home late in the evening after a long day on the trails.

Expensive, but worth it

While expensive, these are the best for anyone who likes to wear bibs under shorts. Sooooo much less bulky and cooler, both temperature and the look.

When I first saw this product the first thing that came to my mind is:"Finallyyyyy" .
An amazing bib loose-fit shorts in one. Light weight, very stretchy, heavy duty, super comfy, MTB shorts.
I have raced XC MTB for several years, and I ride all mountain trails, and these shorts can be worn for both and I can say for all mtb activities, you can even wear them for commuting. They look great, fit great, you almost forget them while riding.
My first empression when I got them was: WOW very well done, you feel the quality of Gore Bike Wear.
When you put it on it feels like its made for you.
When riding you feel like wearing only bib thights, they don't get stuck in your saddle when moving forth and back, up and down.
I liked them so much I bought a second pair, and I think I will never wear my old shorts again.
I defenetly recommend .

Great alternative to regular bib short

I typically have worn a mix of either baggies over my regular bib shorts, or just the bib shorts by themselves, when I ride XC and trail. Wear the baggies over my bibs was ok, there were definitely times the shorts would slide around a bit or get caught on the saddle. These new Gore Alp-X 2 in 1's are definitely the solution to this.

I picked up my first pair early this summer after hearing others give positive feedback on them. They arrived and my first impression was that they felt quite light. I took them out for the first ride and immediately noticed the benefits. They were extremely comfortable, but didn't slide around and didn't catch the tip of my saddle. Despite the warm weather, they didn't feel too hot. The chamois felt good without any issues on the first few rides.

I subsequently took them with me on a few trips. While riding in Brown County, IN I did take a low speed tumble onto some rocks after losing my balance trying to hop up over some rocks. This is where I noticed the one weakness of the shorts. The baggie material is very light and the tradeoff is that it did get a small whole from where I fell on the rocks. No big deal - did impact the performance at all - but if you are someone who bails out and rolls or falls a lot, these might not be the best option.

Ultimately I liked them so much I bought a second pair. I took them both on a longer trip through Colorado, where I spent some long rides climbing Vail, riding the Government Trail from Snowmass to Aspen, and hitting a bunch of other single track. The shorts held up great and were always super comfortable.

Highly recommended!

Skip the spandex.... you ride a MTB

All the features of a high end technical bib short without looking like a roadie !

-Fantastic seat insert

-Super lightweight & breathable materials ( pic is from a 60 mile race in 90 degree weather and these kept me as cool as possible)

-Seamless integration between the upper bib and the baggy lowers and the riding specific cut keeps them snag free when transitioning in and out of the saddle.

Do yourself a favor and pick a pair of these up !

I'd love to see this with front pockets as an option.

Hey Ryan these do have a small stash pocket in the front leg - plenty of room for a cliff shot or two and a cell phone etc.
