Description

Let it rain, you’re ready.

Don’t call off your scheduled ride when the weatherman virtually guarantees it’s going to rain—just pack the GORE Bike Wear Women’s ALP-X Jacket in your hydration pack. This ultra-lightweight jacket features Gore-Tex Paclite fabric that seals out every drop of rain, yet breathes so you stay dry underneath the shell, no matter how hard you’re pedaling. The Alp-X is specifically designed for a cyclist’s posture so you get a comfortable fit and full coverage when you’re bent over the bars. When the conditions become monsoonal, pull the hood out of the collar for some extra protection. An extra-long, fold-away tail shields your behind from water and mud your tire kicks up, and a media pocket with a cord guide in the collar keeps the tunes rolling.

Ditto:

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I just purchased a newer version which is the 2.0 (the 3.0 are soon to come out!) of this jacket and love it, too. From what description there is, and from the pic., seems it hasn't changed much. Also would have liked a few more pockets (for the money). Like the high collar except when you want it unzipped for ventilation...then it's kind of in the way because of the somewhat stiffness of the material.
For really nasty weather, try adding the Gore "Windstopper" baselayer underneath; the zip mock is particulary nice. I recently took a ride where the weather unexpectedly turned nasty (windy and sleeting), I had on a winter bike jacket and jersey (both top notch Giordana Forma Red) and they cut the wind and kept me in good shape till it got very windy...bottom line, wish I had this jacket to layer over top the others...from now on I will always pack this light weight jacket when ever there's the slightest chance of any nasty weather! (oh, by the way, you will want to size-up in ALL Gore; I wear a '10' in street clothes, but take a XXL in all Gore...just a heads-up).

Best rain/wind jacket available for women cyclists

I looked around, read reviews, and really feel this is the best rain jacket available for women cyclists. It is long enough everywhere, and it keeps the rain and wind out. The hood is nice because you can wear it under your helmet. I bought the red jacket, and it is true red. They give you a nice large pocket in the back and a media pocket at the chest, but no front hand pockets. I really think they could have added two zippered hand pockets for the price.

noreen

I just ordered this jacket and it came to my house pretty quickly. 3 or 4 days. I took it on it's maiden voyage today and was very pleased. It was 55 and cloudy with extreme windy conditions. Up to 30mph gusts! Perfect test for the jacket. It performed superbly. I wore an Under Armour mock and another thin running weight shirt underneath the jacket. ZERO wind made it's way into the jacket. I was snug and toasty but not too hot. Very well constructed piece of bike clothing. I balked at the price but unless it falls apart in the wash it was worth every penny. A true high level performance garment . It does run small and fits snugly. I usually wear a L or XL . I got the XXL and was glad I did. I probably would have had to send a smaller size back. With this jacket and my new gortex shoe covers I was good to go.

spectacular jacket

A great deal of thought went into crafting this jacket, from the front venting to the hood with a slightly turned up front edge to keep rain from pouring into your face.
The fit is great but the sizing runs a bit small. There is no binding and the raglan sleeves make for great range of motion.
The color is high vis and has reflective piping in the back.
I'm going to be cycling in New Zealand this winter and this jacket will be coming along as a wind breaker as well as rain jacket. It folds into a tiny pouch and is light as a feather.

Is it best to wash this jacket after each...

Is it best to wash this jacket after each ride, or weekly to keep it in the best condition

Responded on

Got my answer - every week or 2nd week

Best Answer Responded on

Wash with a mild detergent, no fabric softener. Dry on Medium heat.

you shouldn't have to do it as often as you mention, unless you're wearing it every day, and even then, if you're not subjecting it to a lot of rain/snow on every ride, you could probably wash it once a month or even less.

Hope that helps!

Would like to add to Robert's answer that it is best to just hang-dry (best for all bike wear, and especially treated material). Wash ONLY as really needed (tops & bottoms after every ride of course) to help maintain integregity of garmet& again, to help maintain the rain repellancy (sorry about the spelling, where'spellcheck when ya need it!). You can also use a spray-on water repellent if after many years of use, and occasional washing, your jacket (or any water-proofed garment) might need.
Hope this helps all.

Awesome Jacket

This jacket is great, worth every dollar. Once you get warmed up with the cycling, this jacket keeps the cold out, and while you are cycling you are kept warm. The wind doesn't go through at all. Really pleased with it. The shipping was unbelievable - I can't believe it was quicker to get a parcel sent from the States to the other side of the world (to my front doorstep) than within my own country!!!
